Good afternoon and there was a thread a while back about a member who had some Synpower that the additive seemed to fallout. Any one know what happened or any follow up to the post?
I had a 20 yr old quart of M1 I just emptied and there was a blob of chemicals in the bottom. It wouldn't come free no matter how hard I shook it. It took poking/scraping it with a pointed metal file to get it all free. It did appear to mix back into the oil after that.
I can't find the post right now. If I find it I'll post a link. Anyway, what I remember is that Valvoline tested the oil and concluded that moisture had somehow been introduced and reacted with one of the additives. Valvoline said that the oil would have been ok to use but replaced it for the OP anyway. The oil was about 3 years old if I remember correctly.
"Sludge in new oil" was the title, but it wasn't really sludge, and the oil was still OK to use. Valvoline did the right thing by him, and shouted him some new oil anyway.
From Valvoline:
"The waxy build up you see with-in the oil is the detergents and somehow, water or moisture has gotten into the containers. When this occurs, the detergents bond with the water to form this waxy substance. If installed into an engine, the minimal water that was introduced to the oil would burn off and the detergents would blend back into the oil as the should once the engine had reached operating temperature."
