The M54 engine is pretty easy to do the valve cover gasket on. I just helped my friend do the valve cover on his 2005 330i ZHP with 130k miles. He used BMW 5w30 for most of the car's life and it looked very similar underneath. I should've taken pics but didn't think of it at the time.
