I am not sure I buy into the idea of switching oils helps.

I disagree. Different oils have different chemistries and they'll clean up after the previous one n
When using the same product every time the possibility exists that that single oil may leave deposits that it cannot clean after itself.

My 2v from my 2000 gt had in excess of 250k and it was spotless under the valve covers, never using the same oil on consecutive runs and mos2 for a few years. When I removed the cams out of the heads about 2 years after the engine was removed they were so slick they almost slipped from my hands. I wasn't ready for how slick they were,2 years after removal.

901 Memphis...it was the first thing I noticed when I uploaded the pic

It is , however, not as bad as it looks, and it gets regular attention too. I live on a dirt/gravel road, so...hard to avoid that dusty stuff.

same with doctors sometimes too, they all see different things

I've tried this on the same theory that different formulations should have different cleaning properties. I normally use M1 AFE in my Honda K24, but have experimented using PP and RP. Not surprisingly, I have absolutely nothing to report from these tests.

The rationale of common sense (BITOG common sense) that this would work. I don’t think we’ll ever be able to prove it quantitatively until someone has two identical vehicles used in the exact same conditions by the same drivers and are both run to 600,000 miles.

Under normal circumstances, I believe this falls under the category of extreme hair-splitting. Still, I will continue to use the logic.

Just goes to show all the hand wringing over different oils here on BITOG is unfounded, the 4.6 in my '07 Grand Marquis is just as clean using synthetics and changing once a year...

Very impressive and very clean.

I like the fact that you have used a wide range of engine oils and in different weights. It 'should' keep the 'nay sayers' quiet about using various oils in various weigths instead of sticking to just one.

BlueOvalFitter..should is the operative word here

but yes I agree. The cold weather start tap I was trying to locate actually started around 60k, and up to that time all it ever had was MC5w20 and MC filters. I think the tap is the hyd timing chain tension device on that side is a little lazy. It's a fairly common problem on the 4.6's and it will have to get much worse for me to pull the front off the engine to fix it (it's owner is lazy too

) Was under there anyway, changing plugs, cleaning throttle body, etc, just getting ready for some hopefully warmer weather cruising. Next oil change within the week, will probably be what's on sale...thanks to all who chimed in !!
