Using Redline Oil as an additive.

Why not use Redline Oil as an additive? Their tech told me that the 10w30 and 10w40 Redline has:

Moly: 950
Zinc: 1400
Phosphorus: 1300

More moly than Valvoline Synpower Oil Treatment and roughly 85% the zinc and phosphorus of the Synpower Oil Treatment

Price should not be an issue as half a quart of Redline is $4 and a bottle of the Synpower (15oz) is $4. Mixed with 4.5 qts basic dino you would get average 95 ppm moly (a hefty dose) and boost the zinc and phosphorus by about 40 and 30 ppm. An added benefit is the ester base oil of Redline which should give you a "Start Up" advantage as it clings to metal. The esters may also help clean the engine.
 
is it ok to mix it with mobil 1 ? or chevron supreme? or even the green and powerful wizard of germany?

I would think you could mix it with any oil. What would be the best combination (or proportion) is anybody's guess.

I don't use Redline oil but if I did I would mix it at a ratio of 1-1 with Redline .

I don't mix because I don't want the additives one oil has competing with the ones in another formulated oil .

What happens when one oil uses alkyl phenol as a surfactant the other a different type ? Does it get to the point where both compete to where neither of their jobs are performed ?

A moly oil vs an oil w/o it that uses another friction modifier and both competes for the ability to attach to the metal surface . Which one wins there especially at 5OOF when some moly's plate . Will the other friction modifier stand in the moly's way ?

How bout the many VI Improvers . How do they play together ?

The ASTM Reference oil TMC 1006 is a 5w30 wt in which the SAE considers agressive towards seals . The SAE Committe on Automotive Rubber Specifications in part oversee's the development of API oils to maintain that the engine oils produced are not more agressive towards engine seals than the reference oil .

Since the newer additives can play more than one role to include seal conditioning I need me a formulated oil . There's just too much to it all and if unknown it's better to play it safe and use a oil the big guys formulated . They get the big bucks for there knowledge and testing capabilities .

Sure some mix w/o apparent harm . They are not doing time and time again though so the possible negatives might not show up for some time if mixing year in year out .

Not a rant or nothing just my views based alot on Molakules posts over in the additive/technology area plus other info I ve learned. This ain't the 70's no more when oil was oil. Times have changed and there are many additives to use and they are using them . None are using the same formulas though . Well some are because of the additive packs sold but the synlube guys are not . They all be different

Yup. They All Be different! and too many routes make a muddy map.
Happy mixing... Watch those numbers.... when they tend to go higher than a favorite blend, in one area or another...

well.... oil is oil as oil can be nothing else, but to make it and produce additives that balance an oil IMO are getting harder for the novice (like me) to balance out better than the "BOYZ".

Don't hurt to play, but keep an eye on the brew.

Just poured about one ounce each of Maxlife 10w30 and Redline 10w30 into a baby food jar and mixed it well. If it turns cloudy over time or stuff settles on the bottom then it likely is not a good mix.
 
Here is a case where about 22% Redline was mixed into M1 and the used oil analysis looks fine:

What happens if you ran a load of Redline for an OCI, drained it an installed a conventional or synthetic blend, maybe Maxlife or Citgo or whatever. Maybe there was 4 to 8 ounces of Redline still in the engine because we know it all won't drain out. Does it result in additive clash? Is the small quantity not enough to be of concern? Or is it that the additives are somewhat worn out and so no problem.

I am thinking as little as one ounce per quart (6 oz for my 300 I6) might be a worthy addition and would not result in any significant conflicts between the oil types. Problem is, likely there is no way to know if that small amount helps anything or not. So it might just be a money flush down the old oil drain pan. So maybe I should put half a quart for about 8%. After all, the used oil analysis above came out good and Dave at RL told me their oil should not have a problem mixing with whatever oil I am using.

Come to think of it, my wife's Aerostar auto transmission has a mix (from various past partial drain and fills) of Redline, M1, and dino ATF. So far, so good. Not the same environment as the engine, but does get plenty hot.
