Would the bigger media and can size negatively affect the oil pressure in the engine? I know I will need to add a bit more oil to the engine once the filter is full of oil. I'd like to go up a size, and I can use the 10241, but the 20195 is about an inch longer (and more media). It makes sense for me to use these filters on the tractor, B&S and other filters are more $, and look like toys.

Negitive...should't have any ill effects on it,i went from the stock Briggs filter to a PL10241 pressures always the same.

Thanks. Sweet setup on the oil pressure gauge on a mower. I'm going to use the PureOnes from now on.

The B&S filter looks like a joke. The 132 hour cut-open P1 is proof enough for me. I'll probably only take mine 50 hours, using whatever 5w30 synthetic i have in house.

Daman,

That gauge setup is fantastic! I love gauges--the more, the better!

Hmmmm...I wonder if there's enough room on my JD LT155 dash for an oil pressure gauge??

Yea not bad i love gauges also wish i would have had room for a better lay out but i had to work with what i had.

the O/P gauge is a 1.5" from fastenal and the O/T is 2" i believe, how is your dash laid out would you have room?

Darn....

First off, the only good place to put a gauge would require drilling of this nifty dash decal:

But the killer here is that my Kohler CV15 was not drilled and tapped for a pressure gauge.....

If I were a more competent machinist, I suppose I could drill and tap the oil filter housing....but frankly, that scares me to death!

Your dash looks like it would do two 1.5" gauges no problem.

and your oil filter housing has a perfect spot for a hole, drill and tap it no issues wont hurt a thing, that's all mine is,is a hole in the pressure side,if you took your filter off you would see it would be just a simple hole.

a simple drill and tap hole right here....

I have a Kohler engine manual that shows that exact spot drilled and tapped for a low-pressure cutoff switch, so yes--that is the spot!

I have limited experience with tapping...maybe I need to practice a few times on some scrap aluminum before I attempt it. I just have visions of ruining a perfectly good engine to install a gauge I don't really need...but certainly want!!!!

Yes practice on a piece of scrap, there's nothing to rune really if you drill that spot.

get the proper drill bit and tap

I use a Purolator Premium (whichever is below the PureOne) on my John Deere 19.5HP B&S. Sure is a lot cheaper than the JD filters at $10, plus it's an inch or two longer.

No problem good filters...

BTW, I'd like to mention I run Rotella T6 5W-40 in my JD 19.5HP B&S, and with the Purolator (first engine I've had with a filter), after 25 or so hours of use, the oil comes out looking nearly like new. Is it because it's a new, clean engine? It has 48 hours on it. Or is the filter really helping keep the oil that much cleaner?

BTW, I broke it in for 5 hours on the JD green oil and JD filter it came with. Then went straight to T6 and Purolator filters. 0 oil consumption so far.

Well i't both, the engine is new and clean inside and also the Purolator(P1?)does a fine job of filtration.

if that engine has 48 hr's on it it's broke in and ready for long OCI, use that oil and a yellow P1 and take it out 100 hrs minimum!.

i do 125-150hrs with amsoil ACD and a yellow P1 mine has 162 hrs on it and oil stays clean for a long time.

great choice on oil!

Jaymus,

I'm always amazed as well that my JD LT155's Kohler CV15 oil comes out looking darn-near like new at the end of the season. It has about 360 hours on it, and I've changed it once a season since new. It's about 10 years old now. I suppose the full pressure lube with filter has a lot to do with that. And, I don't come near the suggested 100hr change interval, either.

It gives me the feeling that these engines are light-years ahead of the old L-head splash-lubed engines of the past, and should last a LONG time with proper care.

Yeah, all the mowers I've had with no filter always put out pitch black oil, or definitely my 4-stroke weed-eater... the oil comes out green. The filter on my riding mower must catch all that.
