Uses for a 5HP Tecumseh Snow Blower Engine...

The Murray snow blower I bought new is beyond a normal level of repair for multiple reasons and is scrap metal, but the 10 year old 5HP Tecumseh engine is in fabulous condition!

This engine has had the cylinder fogged every spring, oil changed about every 10 hours, warmed up well before use and a small amount of Seafoam in the 92 octane non ethanol gas it's entire life.

Can't waste a perfectly good, pampered 5HP engine...........

How about listing some uses for the engine (I live in a rural area with a few acres & a 4 car garage).

Or, does someone want it? Approximate value?

You might consider your local craigs-list:

1) watch for a snow blower with a bad engine & puts yours on it.
2) or just sell your engine there.

I picked up an older heavy-duty snowblower for $40 (from craigs list) that I haven't gotten to run yet. (no spark)

Regarding it's value, my opinion is that a fair price is $75-100. I say that only because that's the range I see used engines selling for locally.

I bought a new Toro 10HP snow blower.

Could sell it, but would rather put it to some use; looking for some usage ideas too...

Some possibilities:

1) A log splitter
2) A go-kart

Rural area, few acres; sounds like the perfect spot for a log splitter. Do you have any flooding in your area? Maybe a pump engine.

Four car garage, maybe an auxiliary garage door opener motor.

It looks like good/clean used ones can fetch ~$100 with shipping and all on flea-bay if you wanna go thru the hassle. I'd mothball it and toss it on a shelf somewhere clean and dry. Old flatheads are a thing of the past now.

Ah-ha - I do have a sunken patio that "could" flood in a 200 year flood situation. Good idea!

If used in warm weather, just remember to remove the winter shrouding.
It usually is designed to keep some heat in during the coldest weather and route some warmed air toward the carburator.

Along with the winter shrouding, there will be no air filter or air filter housing making it kind of useless unless you fit it with one.

Rural area, do you lose power? Maybe add generator for backup power. Large garage, do you have a air compressor? gas engine power air comp maybe idea. Are the drive wheels on the snow thrower still good and largish~10-12 inches, this could be a good start for a go-kart, espically if the drive on the thrower is useable.

Buy a nice used ariens brand snowblower that needs an engine. Those old beasts maintain their value.

Yea, power loss with civil unrest is a concern, especially with a well for water!!

Generators come with engines though and are caged with everything fitting. Maybe a google search...

mount automotive radiator fan to it. WITH finger screen! Use as a high-flow garage fan.

Ever build a hovercraft? Need 2 engines...

Belt-drive to auto alternator. 12V gas power for battery charging. If you rewire the alt you can run lots of goodies at 120V, 440 hz...
