I haven't used synthetic for years, got over it pretty quick. The current oil in my NX Coupe says semi synth, but that probably just means group III.

I usually use Valvoline blend, but this last OCI I've been trying Mobil 5000.

I have a 2000 LeSabre with the 3800 and I've been experimenting with 6 quarts.

I've only used conventional oils my entire life. Right now 3 of my vehicles have Havoline, one has (I think) Valvoline, and the 4 tractors all have Rotella.

For the vehicles I purchase whatever brand name is on sale when I'm ready to do oil changes. For the tractors I use Rotella exclusively because it's cheap and is an ideal oil for flathead engines.

Michigan uses salt on their winter roads and that takes a toll on vehicles over a long period of time. The 2nd consecutive time I drove a badly rusted 17 year-old vehicle to the junk yard - one I purchased new, well that convinced me that I should switch back to dino.

Why give the junk yard a perfectly running and clean engine? Both vehicles arrived at the junkyard with a non-darkened dipstick and only using one quart between oil changes.... both engines over 225K.

I could have save money using dino. So that's why I switched back.

I'm an agnostic. I had a tremendously good experience, with M-1, but like 777, engine immortality is overrated. Driving down the street in a rolling junk-heap with the engine purring away is a mixed pleasure.

I figure my time, money and efforts are better spent on the cosmetics, with conscientious dino oil changes. Still, I do believe that synthetic is at least theoretically better. For a few bucks difference, I'm there.
