Any oil filter (regardless of brand) with very wide pleat spacing is a potential "design problem" or "manufacturing problem". Very wide pleat spacing is the common denominator in the media tearing formula.

No design flaw in this Purolator, Problem with the internet, fiction flows faster then fact.
Here is a fact ! Make sure to scroll all the way through the thread, lots of photos further down as others called into question my photos because they were so perfect of a perfectly designed MANUFACTURED Purolator.[/quote]
FIFY-there's really never been any problem with Puro's DESIGN, they were a perfectly serviceable filter in the old pre-Mann & Hummel days-it's the horrible construction & QC that has made them a real risk to use.

I'm wondering if M&H changed the design of the media when they took over and made it more "brittle". If the media was so brittle it wouldn't tear as easily when pleats get a little wide.
