Used tire on Craigslist

Just sold 2 used Falken FK452 225/45-17 taken off from the front of S2000 few months ago. There are 5/32" tread remaining on 1 tire, a little less than 5/32" but more than 4/32" on other tire.

Just posted on local Craigslist tonight and within 30 minutes a guy called and offer $40 (asking $50), he came within 30-35 minutes later and pick it up.

Turn out he is selling his 1st generation Audi S4 within 2-3 months and it has 2 very bald tires now and he doesn't want to spend $500-600 for a set of new tires. Also, currently he has the same Falken FK452 on the car.

He was happy to get the 2 used matched tires for $40, I was very very happy to get rid of it. It is a win win for both parties.

People who are selling and buying things on Craigslist aren't all bad.

that's the luck i had selling my sonata via cl a few years back.
barely had the ad posted, before i started getting phone calls.
ended up selling to an old HS class mate, who literally lives around the corner.

now the one time i sold tires, they took 21 days to sell.
it was a matched Set, of BFG G-Force Sport 205/50 ZR16's, mounted on 16x6 9 spoke wheels from an '06 PT Cruiser Convertible.
only had 5k mi on 'em, but had sat in storage in my brother's garage from Nov 2007-June 2011. brother wanted $500, sold 'em for $400. and the buyer drove up from Columbus(~100m each way) to pay cash for them.

I buy lots of stuff on CL, but I need to watch myself as I tend to say "oh thats not that far away, I will go pick it up" and I am driving for several hours to get it.

I put a used Flowmaster 40 series muffler on Craigslist asking $60. A guy who had bashed up one of his FM 40s on his Mustang was looking for a used FM40 and bought it for $50. Not bad.

I sold a mower 2 weeks ago, went fine.

Sold a large book shelf last week. Informed the buyer before they showed up that they would need a truck or trailer to move it as it was huge. They showed up with a Ford escort. I ended up having to deliver it across town for them with my truck.

Sold a TV this week, went fine.

Sold a another lawn mower this week. Listed it for $115 firm. Guy showed up, loaded it in his car, and gave me $100 bill and said that should do it. I said unload the mower and have a nice day. He then gave me $120 and asked for $5 back in change. Who has the balls to negotiate a firm price item after it is loaded in their car and then doesn't have the proper change? Idiots.

^ I listed a car carcass for scrap, and clearly in the ad mentioned no transmission, front axle, catalytic converter, etc. A father/son team showed up with your average car trailer so I helped pry the thing up with pipes and jacks while they winched it up. They paid, got the title, then asked me incidentally when they were leaving, "where's the cat?"

"That's not your cat! I said in the ad, it's missing this, that, do you have a copy on you?" Father glared at son who must have done the ad-spotting.

They may have thought in their head about unravelling the deal and putting my car back in the driveway, but headed out for what I presume was a long frosty ride home... more than an hour to scrap a car!!

I had my truck on cl for several months and had to weed out the weirdos. I got offered grow lights and other drug paraphernalia. I finally got what I wanted though.

LOL! Just a few minutes ago I sold the 4 used Bridgestone Blizzaks from our Honda Odyssey. 3 seasons worth of use on them. Wanted $200, but let the fella have them for $180. He drove quite a way and showed at 10am sharp like he said he would.

No hassle is worth something to me.

I have had good luck with CL. I have both bought and sold stuff and met some nice people in the process. I know CL gets a bad rap for a bunch of flakes but I don't think enough people mention the good transactions they have had.

Not CL, but I got 2 used tires/rims from a junkyard for $20 each. Now we each have a full-size spare. As long as they held air, I didn't care how much tread was on them. Anything is better than the donut spares that came with our cars.

Nope.

A week before I sold the 2 used tires, I sold the 1991 Mercury tracer with 125k miles. The auto transmission didn't engage when it is in reverse or in drive. If the car is running fine then it worth about $600-800 max, within 2 days of listing it was sold for $330(asked for $500) to a tow truck company, he towed it to one of his garage buddy to repair or put in a used transmission.

Before I sold to that guy, I got several calls and all offered $200-$250.

As mentioned above, bad experience spread out quickly to all over the web, but good transactions are rarely mentioned. I try to post both good and bad experiences, so that others can make up their mind.

I just replaced an electric stove in a rental house I own with a like new smooth top stove with a self cleaning oven for $135.00. The basic "rental house" stove at HD was $399.00! I have had good luck with CL but have heard about some bad things happening there.
