Ok, I know that the colour of the oil is supposed to be meaningless but I find this interesting. Both cars changed Sept. 5 it think it was, G6 done again early Dec at 8732km, now both are coming to the end of their OCI, probably early next month. The 6 is down to 37% at 3300km and the 5 is at 16% at 11500km. Now when I checked the levels on both cars this morning, I could not visually tell the difference between the two oils on the paper towel. They looked to be from the same dipstick, honestly.
So is this simply a coincidence or is there maybe something to the colour?

Hard to tell many things from the color of oil. Of course when coolant gets in at significant levels you can tell, but I do the same thing you do ie. compare cars oil color, but I don't give it any weight. Just change at the usual interval.

I guess I don't understand your question.....based on what you posted......why would there be "something to the color?" Because they have similar colors at the end of their OCI's? What is the this "something" you are seeing in your example?

Ya, assuming the OLM is accurate, with both cars near the end of the OCI and the colour of the oil is basically identical, is there something to the colour? Same oil in both cars, similar service, different OCIs yet when the OLM is about to indicate a change for both, they both look the same.

Not looking for anything in particular here, just an observation and figured I'd see what everyone had to say.

You have the same oil in each, and you are within the safe life of the oil based upon the very sophisticated GM OLM.
I am assuming that neither of your engines have any particular problems.
So, I would expect the oils to have about the same color.
