Is Oil responsible for engine colour?

helix ultra has good write ups. Bought 4 jugs of it just before christmas but then I decided to try an ester based (motul sport) which acts as a solvent and hopefully cleans better than the helix.

Some years ago I ran an old 1988 alfa boxer with motul 300v( double ester) and after 2/3 years the crank case was like knew inside. No varnish at all.

That yellow color is varnish and it can do nasty things like cause your cam phaser solenoids to freeze up and block the oil return holes in your piston ring lands - causing your oil control rings to seize and start massive oil consumption. Long oil drain intervals will cost you a lot more in the long run I guaranty you.


Extended intervals within oil specs has nothing wrong.
