Similar to my Fram comment I think that my reluctance to use them is based on learning about them. MMO has some questionable ingredients, I don't think I need to try it to have that affect my decision. Even if it works I still don't think it's a good idea based on some of the secondary effects of the Naptha etc. Lots of engines last a long time these days so it will be difficult to tell what the long term effects are. I think I'll keep it in the additive of last resort category. (it's better than the 'wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole' category)

That's interesting, seems there's more negative about A-Rx just on the pages of this site. I guess it depends who you talk to and what you read. I think it would be safe to say there are more satisfied MMO users than A-Rx users, state by state, in the US, or worldwide for that matter.

I haven't read every thread but I really don't see many factual negative results with Autorx besides a lifter tick or something. There's lots of people that think it's too expensive or that it didn't provide the positive results they had hoped for but nothing where there was a connection to a blown motor or similar. Maybe you could post a link for me (or PM). It is in the 'miracle in a bottle' category, anyone who believes they will end up with a brand new motor are hopelessly gullible.

Not achieving expected results does not equal nothing happened or that the product does not work. THere is enough diversity in chemical structure of things that seem the same, that actual behaviors and reactive characteristics can vary. Some of these adds may be good for one thing and not the other, but we can't see the difference between deposits or issues inside our engine.

I agree with the poster above, a good mechanism should be provided. Solvency for most and competition for surface for ARX are sound, not as sure with zmax, though I've found it to do something empirically.

That's fair enough. You keep MMO in the last resort category, and I'll keep A-Rx in the it didn't work for me and I won't use again category. I based that on my own actual use. What's neat about this board is that people can read and make informed decisions. I like to experiment and try things that might have merit, in doing that I've discovered Lubro Moly MoS2, Bio Tech Engine Protectant, Schaeffers #132, and some products from Red Line to be of benefit.

JHZR2 at least you had an open mind and gave the zMax a try. From what I've read you had positive benefits, MSDS sheets don't tell the whole story. Glad things worked out for you. I have two bottles of zMax waiting for the spring to try out for myself.

I haven't seen anything from the OP since this took off.

He hasn't answered any requests for further details, or provided an update based on the time that's passed.

I'd be interested in both, to see if there's been any change in the situation...

I really don't get why people without a vested interest take the time to bash a product.
as someone stated, no bottle of stuff can fix every issue, but ARX HAS worked for MANY people.
but unhappy people are louder than satisfied customers.

me? I used it one one car, a high mileage '96 Mazda MPV. I had lifter tick and leaking issues. throughout the cleaning phase the noises got weird (the bad noise was from a timing belt about to fail. it did ).
but once I finished the clean, the rinse phase was fantastic. my wife was unaware of the whole ARX cycle I was doing, so I appreciated it when she came home one day and expressed the improvement in power and no noise.
so, for me, it DID work.

and c3po, the expression is smoke AND mirrors, NOT SMOKING MIRRORS. get your metaphors correct.

rofl. Nothing worse than a butchered metaphor. I'll make like a tree and get outa here.
