Used Amsoil EA15K13 E-core C&P

Have you cut open and inspected previous filters after an oil change?

Car has 34,700 miles on it, and obviously this isn't the 1st oil change, so the aluminum particles aren't from "original machining". Something is chewing itself up.

I didn't take as many pics of the media but it looked almost as bad as this one. I'm planning on doing an oil analysis in 5k when I drain it again.

Continued metal particles seen at that level in the oil filter well after engine break-in isn't a good sign. I've seen way less than that in the first break-in filter inspection on many vehicles.

A UOA might not tell you much except to compare the wear metal levels to the "universal average" for that engine. There can be a lot of wear going on in an engine, and a standard UOA like what Blackstone uses may not show a lot of increased wear metals because it can only measure particles 5u and smaller.

I honestly don't expect a UOA to tell me much but, after seeing what is in the two filters I've pulled off this car it would seem negligent to me not to have an oil analysis done. Regardless of what the UOA says I will continue to inspect every filter. Might even pull filters and inspect halfway through OCIs.
 
This is off a 24 Armada.
34,700 on car
5500 on filter with Amsoil sig 0-20
Lots of glitter, I guess it’s aluminum because it won’t stick to a magnet.
Leaf spring leaks
Backing is coated wire
The ADBV didn’t hold
Filter was empty when I cut it open about 30 minutes after I took it off.
Mann w610/3 went back on
