Use same oil in Honda 3.0 VTEC and 2.3 Duratec?

Within the past month, we've bought two new cars: an '07 Accord 3.0L V6 and an '07 Ford Escape 2.3L 4-cyl. Both recommend 5W-20. I'm a big TropArtic fan based on my research and my last UOA's, but I can't find it locally in 5W-20.

I'd like to stick with one oil for both, and I'm leaning towards Motorcraft 5W-20 with PureOne filters. I'm also considering Castrol GTX or even PP. I guess I'd like the "synthetic blends" better than conventional, but I'm not sure if that's a scientific opinion or just a perception of mine.

What opinions are there about the pros and cons of using the same oil in both (obviously different) engines?

Does anyone know where to get or order TropArtic 5W-20?

I'm looking for long life with both, at least 300K on the Honda and 150-200K on the Escape. Pipe dreams? I hope not.

Think you'll find most people on here will recommend the Motocraft 5W-20 as the best choice.....there is a recent thread on here about someone getting to 200K miles on a police Crown Vic with nothing but MC 5W-20......

5w20 TropArtic is hard to find.

You might try calling AutoZone as they carry TropArtic.

Maybe a 'hub' store has it sitting in the back, collecting dust.

I've never seen TropArtic 5W20 but I use MC 5W20 in my 01 Escape (6cyl) and have started using PP 5w20 in my 06 Mustang GT. I think either is a great choice for the Honda or the Escape.

Don't know about the Honda but the Escape with Duratec would prefer a thin dino or synthetic. I'm running PP in my 06 Ranger 2.3, same as the Escape, and it runs alot smoother and has more pep than it did with Havoline. Gas mpg didn't change. On our Escape with the 3.0 Duratec we get better mpg with Havoline but it was smoother with MC. You should get the same life out of both vehicles if you maintain them both at the same intervals.

When you say "thin", are you referring to base viscosity, like 0W-20, cST, or something else? What viscosity did you use, and did you do any UOA's?

I've heard the Honda V6's are pretty robust and could run on linseed oil, but I'd really like to use the same in both, though it's not an absolute necessity.

I wish CP would push the TropArtic 5W-20 out into the market more as there are so many more vehicles out now that are recommending it, e.g. Ford and Honda.
