A good friend now has access to this insurance company. He is not sure that he wants to switch his car insurance to this from AAA Michigan. I know that it is a good insurance company, but I was wondering just how good. He is loyal to AAA, as he does pay more than he should, but they cover him right and have been great on claims for him. I told him that USAA does it too...and takes care of their members. This is where I need you guys-as I want him to look in to it. Two good reasons:

1- Michigan is #1 in cost when it comes to insurance. I have no doubt it will be cheaper.

2-Staying with AAA will not allow him to see if he can do better than he has now, possibly with even better coverage.

Those of you you have USAA, what can I tell him?

Quarter Century member here. Joined when I was a cadet.

One of the best if not THE best rated insurance company. I've shopped my policy and when I tell potential insurers I have USAA, many won't try to quote me a policy because they cannot beat the rates.

Subscriber Savings account. I get a yearly check as a USAA member. That check is based on what I have in my SSA and how they've done that year.

Should I choose to leave USAA, they would send me a check for that amount. It's grown to over two grand, as well as the value of the checks I've received each year.

As a full member, he would be part owner in USAA.

Think of the SSA as owning stock in USAA. Think of the yearly payout from the SSA as earning a dividend on that stock.

Since 1984. (My dad was a Army CW3)

USAA would not cover my ZX600 Ninja or GSXR 750 so I have had other insurance companies. Farmers, State Farm, and Progressive.

I will never insure with any other company again.

A high school friend of mine that enlisted the same time as I did was trying to determine at what value he should switch to liability. I suggested he switch to USAA instead. I think the only problem he has is that I didn't suggest this to him when they opened enrollment to enlisted personnel in '96

I've been with USAA for about 20 years. IME,their customer service has been outstanding. They insure our home,3 cars,2 boats, travel trailer,2 utility trailers,2 quads, and 2 dirt bikes.

We've had 3-4 claims with them over the years. They've always bent over backwards to assist us.

I'm not sure about their pricing, because we've never bothered to shop around. We're completely satisfied with them.

my dad has USAA. I did a price quote for him a few years ago, USAA beat them all. I'm eligible, but I decided to stay with metlife for home/auto.

I've had great luck with USAA. Though I was able to get a cheaper quote for my Buell motorcycle else where.

I use USAA for everything, checking, savings, investments, homeowners and automobile. I really love the service.

I'm the opposite. Had quotes from them and they weren't any cheaper than what I had. Looked up online about complaints and also through the state insurance and it wasn't impressive. From what I've read it seems like after they opened up the eligibility the rates aren't as good and the service isn't either. I'll check back with them when the last kid moves out next year though.

Been with them since 1994 and have not looked back. Rates also depend on location, location, location. For my Dad, USAA homeowners couldn't be beat, but for me in Oklahoma, USAA couldn't touch Farm Bureau. Car insurance....when I tell other companies whom I'm with to get a price comparison, 9 out of 10 times they tell me before even crunching numbers that they will not be able to beat them. Have all my cars and boat with them. I also use their mastercard, 1% off across the board, no matter how much or little you use it and with whom. They also got about the best CD rate your going to find. Customer service just simply rocks.

I had USAA for 40 years. Only claim I made was probably 30 years ago for a pair of skis after a break-in in a stored travel trailer. Recently they dropped my home owners insurance because of location; lived here for 20 years.

Found State Farm was glad to have me. Cost less too. Of course State Farm gets all the insurance now including the cars.

Also seems nearly anyone can now get covered by USAA. Use to be pretty restricted. When you could control your pool of members it would seem to be less losses.

I used Progressive before USAA and saved almost 50% so I'm happy with them. I've had to file 1 claim and that was hitting a packet of shingles near Lawton, OK a couple years ago. Repair was made quickly, I paid my share and that was it. My premium did not increase.

I also buy property and life insurance through them as well to supplement the insurance I buy through the Army. Their rates are pretty good!

I did not know about their policy for acceptance. Doesn't make sense they would let a sibling of an O be a member but not an E1-4?

I have USAA and couldn't be happier. I think you actually pay more for USAA on average, but the quality of their service is unbeatable, and I'll never have a run-of-the-mill insurance company. They have a ton of financial products in addition to insurance, and we have a lot of products with them.

We had tornado damage to our house from the April 16th storms in North Carolina. They had an adjuster to our house that week to look at the roof. They willingly bought the whole roof and volunteered to replace all of my gutters and downspouts, AND volunteered to put a new roof on my wood-frame shed, so it would match the new roof on the house. They sent us the check in 2 days.

Have I told you how fantastic they are of a company?

Fort Sill....that's where I work. Small world sometimes. Their sibilings policy has been in place since day one I think. It use to be strictly officers, that was what the whole program was founded on back in WWII I believe. They only recently added the enlisted folks. But, like any other business, they need to grow and I think eventually they will include just about anybody in the uniformed services.
