Best Western. Rates are reasonable and their hotels are independently operated so most proprietors put some effort into caring for their facilities. Also, their rewards program is excellent and as a AAA member, you are automatically a Gold level member which gives you some perks. I’ve only stayed 6 nights in the last year but I’ve already earned 2 free nights.

Last place I stayed at was only 3 stories.
It was clean and nice. But I was on floor 2
I guess my lesson learned was reserve the 3rd floor.
Sounded like they bowled all night above me and somebody snuck in a yapper dog......
I left night two when it repeated. They did not charge me for the week I reserved and I didn't complain and they
didn't ask. I think they knew......

Personally I like to stay at a reasonable grade one for cheap. I am fine with Best Western or Comfort Inn & Suite, etc. Holiday Inn Express seems to have very small room size when I need double queen room, so that doesn't work too well.

Wife is more picky about noise so we focus mostly on site away from noisy roads and exterior walkway (she likes the walkway to be air conditioned and indoor). I prefer those with potatoes as breakfast (it makes my day).

Everything else is minor, including brands, if the price is right.

On business trips I usually stay where the others stay, so it is easier to work and won't look odd when you file expense reports. So far I like Hyatt and Sheraton, but I heard from former coworkers they are switching to Ritz Carltons. Man that's a perk.
