Need to book a hotel for one night in Abilene, TX.

Found the rates to be unbelievably high for the area. At first, I thought might be a convention in town. I did a test for a week later, than a month later. Same rates, about three to four times higher than comparable rooms/hotels in Odessa, Lubbock, or Amarillo.

A quick google search revealed the reason. Major construction projects, primarily data centers, are taking up all the hotel rooms in Abilene.

Who would have known....

It doesn't take much for hotels in a small town to fill up if there is construction and demand

Sort of like Florida....they give away rooms until the snow birds come to town...the prices triple sometimes

I stayed overnight in Snyder, TX about a 6 weeks ago and the rates were normal. It's 80 miles to Abilene, but it's doable.

Hotel rates are generally out of control it seems.

Most of the hotels I have used for years have almost doubled in the last 5 years. There also almost empty - or at least half empty. Guess they figure they make more by charging a few much higher rates. 🤷‍♂️

I’m sure taxes, insurance and cost of repairs also went up.

I don’t mind spending good money to stay in safe and clean area.

Unfortunately, many resort to taking in Section 8 or DSS "emergency" housing with no notice to the paying customers. Happens a lot in NY & MA hotels.
