Considering the proliferation of smart TVs in hotel rooms i finally encountered one with accounts left on the room tv, watching in guest, not sure if a scam can be run from folks putting accounts on the smart TVs in hotels
That along with looking up spongebob playlists to run while I'm out of their room so their recommended feed gets filled up with cartoons.I leave Youtube searches for "bed bug id", "urine stain removal", etc for the next guest(s) to find.
I stayed at a Marriott in July and the previous guest's YT was still signed in. I found that out when I tried to sign into mine and kindly signed them out.Marriott and Hilton claims there systems purge the logins on checkout, but I am skeptical.
I am unsure what you could get from being logged in to Netflix on someone's account. Youtube could be more problamatic since its linked to your google profile - so it can be more than just streaming TV. I try to remember to log in to my account and remove the device from my account.
this is why I just take a Roku Stick with me
Yes, it's linked, but the YTTV app is still "sandboxed" on the device. You only have access to YTTV services and can't access the user's email, etc.Youtube could be more problamatic since its linked to your google profile - so it can be more than just streaming TV.
With Roku devices - and no doubt other systems can have similar capability - you can set up "Guest mode". We have this in an Airbnb as the TV is a "Roku TV". When the guest turns on the TV the first time, it tells them they're in this mode and asks when they leave. The Roku logs them out of every app they sign into on that date.Marriott and Hilton claims there systems purge the logins on checkout, but I am skeptical.
Even worse many in the off season all have Roku TVs and there seemingly is no way to access local weather or news except on your own device.Hotels are adopting streaming? This sucks. I want cable in hotels I hate having to sign into accounts on a guest TV. This is almost as bad as them doing away with bar soaps.
It's amazing that you use this thing called "the internet" !Hotels are adopting streaming? This sucks. I want cable in hotels I hate having to sign into accounts on a guest TV. This is almost as bad as them doing away with bar soaps.
I did the same in a vacation rentalI stayed at a Marriott in July and the previous guest's YT was still signed in. I found that out when I tried to sign into mine and kindly signed them out.
I agree with him even though I am not much of a fan of cable. At a hotel I have to sign into my account to use it. Now for some services I might need another seat to sign in, if someone at home is using the service at the same time. I also in some cases need to remember to log into my actual account and sign out - either before I leave or after if I forget. It's amazing that you use this thing called "the internet" !![]()
That actually seems ideal to me (us), especially for weather. We can check any minute of the day vs waiting for the news broadcast. As for "news", I can't remember ever watching or caring about "local" news while on vacation, for example.and there seemingly is no way to access local weather or news except on your own device.
Maybe not true everywhere but where I go there is minimal cell coverage and the “online” weather is usually wildly inaccurate compared to the local yolkalsThat actually seems ideal to me (us), especially for weather. Lets face it - hotels are inflating and lowering benefits just like everyone else.
Most hotels I go to now are about 1/4 full. Seems they have figured out it’s better to charge high rates to a few people than fill the rooms.
