US Space force proposed uniform

I think the Space Force is a great idea and forward thinking as well.

As for the chests of ribbons, during my time any officer that had three rows had really done something. Some of these officers today with ribbons up to their ear lobes I just wonder how.

Perhaps it’s the change in timing. New military - everybody gets a ton of ribbons for doing, well, their job…

It's not new . My Dad has campaign ribbons from WWII .
Campaign ribbons are just that - a campaign. That’s a combat experience. Campaign ribbons impress me.

Individual awards for valor in combat impress me.

But the slew of medals and ribbons for being at a desk, in CONUS, is just ridiculous.

They’re meaningless, honestly. It’s like grade inflation. If everyone gets an “A” then grades no longer matter, right?

I can read the resume in a ribbon rack in a heartbeat.

It’s not the number that matters, it’s the individual ones for deployment, time at sea, combat, etc.

Those matter.

My neighbor, a humble guy, is a retired SEAL. When I went to his retirement, his shadow box was there. At the top of the medal rack was the Navy Cross.

The Navy Cross.

I don’t care about ribbons, in general, but my goodness, that one sure caught my attention.

Wow.

You’re clearly not familiar with the USAF and their ribbons…

True story: got my first ribbon/medal, an Air Medal, after I had been in for four years and had flown in combat. I was a Navy LT (O-3).

My kid brother went though USAF OTS at Maxwell AFB in AL. On his uniform, prior to graduation, so still an officer candidate who hadn’t left the confines of the base, were TWO FULL ROWS of ribbons. Six in all.

For being in the USAF for twelve weeks and not deploying at all.

So, yeah.

USAF and their ribbons…
A family member of mine spent 25 yrs in the USAF (Ret Col.) and when I fist met him I asked why he chose the USAF over the USN. His reply was that the USAF always had better on base living quarters since the the USN had to spend a lot more money maintaining ships.

No argument there.

The USAF has nice bases.

They also have lots of educational and career opportunities for their airmen.

Tough to provide similar accommodations and opportunities while at sea…

My observation of what service to join in order if quality of life and location are important:

Coast Guard (I know department of homeland security during peace/ Navy during war)
Air Force
Navy
Army
Marines (often great locations but work hours and field time often mean zero quality of life)

Just my two cents.....

I think the Dolphin (or should I say Dauphine?) is a darn good looking helicopter.

Now the Pelican was ugly as heck, but at least they showed up in a few movies like Top Gun. This was also a neat little trick.

Our squadron deployed with 4 of these SeaKings on my 79/80 WestPac cruise on board the USS Coral Sea, great whirlybird. ;)

Apparently the ones designing the uniforms didn’t get the memo. The powers in control are planning to dump the entire Space Force saying it is not needed and was hastily rushed.
