There are no tougher soldiers in the world than US Marines. Why on earth would anyone care about making their covers look "equally good on males and females"? Someone in government has way too much time on their hands...oh...wait...that would be everyone.

Feminine feel???

Give me a break. The last thing that a Marine needs to worry about is feminine feel because his circa 1922 hat is a little bit narrower. Being a Marine is an accomplishment, and no hat is going to effect that pride.

Sounds like a ridiculous hate Obama any way you can story. (Dont make this a political thing - just note the title that the hats are "Obama's girly hats")

I wonder what these Marines would think?

Or essentially the same look pre-1922?

My greater concern is the $8MM in cost when we dont have a budget and are about to get sequestered below $500B... Cant repair our equipment or support our activities as is.

The Marines currently have sharp uniforms. They don't need to be messed with.

Military All over the world wear uniforms that 'Set them apart' from the rest of the population. That's the whole Idea!

If I wore something that would set me apart, Like Big Hats, Clashing colours, I might be called Girly or Silly.
But because they are military, we are used to it.
They are also made to walk and act it 'Silly' ways (Drill)
but again we are used to that.

Every county I have lived in, people, and Vets particularly, have resisted ANY change to military uniforms. even in the U.K. when the Brigade of Guards changed from Leather soled boots to Rubber
For goodness sake.

A hat is a hat, it's the person under it that counts.

I had an uncle that was a Major in the Australian SAS, He thought the French Foreign Legion were more than bad, He thought they were mostly Psyco

I would not, under any circumstances, go up to a Marine or say that to his face, I.E., when he drills he looks awful silly.

It's not like the government will spend this. It will be paid by Marines. Sure, they get a uniform allowance. But instead of buying replacement utilities, they will need to buy a new hat or two.

Something goofy that will cost our underpaid men and women in uniform.
