US Marines to get girly hats

There's a documentary out there done by Bear Grylls showing the initial training for the French Foreign Legion. It basically shows what they go through from beginning to end. Pretty tough stuff.

REALLY ugly cover. Ridiculous decision and at a time where money needs to be spent judiciously (it still cost plenty of government money to go through the process of coming up with this cover, regardless if it will eventually be paid by each individual Marine). Not only that, but what makes ANYBODY think the new design looks better on male or female than the old one? This is the U.S. Marine Corps for crying out loud. Tradition means everything. But what the heck anyway.....literally NOTHING matters anymore except pleasing the few at the loss of something traditional and time honored. Oh well.

Isn't that the whole purpose, to degrade the morale of the military?

They are also made to walk and act it 'Silly' ways (Drill) but again we are used to that.

I would not, under any circumstances, go up to a Marine or say that to his face, I.E., when he drills he looks awful silly.

If giving a Marine a smaller hat will degrade his/her morale, there is a problem.

The movements of Drill date back to a bygone era. they serve now mainly to instill discipline and to get a group to act as a unit.
There are also traditional aspects. But if you did not understand this, the actions might seem irrational, to say the least.

There was a great story about Shaka Zulu,
The British wanted to impress him with the discipline of their troops. While a Shaka's camp, a squad was ordered to perform precision drill, in full kit, in the mid day sun.

After the demonstration Shaka said he was impressed, then called on a group of his warriors to throw themselves off a cliff to their death.
Touche!

If it's anything like when the Army went from OD Green to the BDU, it will be phased in.

Folks will likely have until some date to stop wearing the old cover.

I like unisex bikes.

Now, are weapons unisex? Sorry, I honestly don't know.

No, the girls have pink "Hello Kitty" rifles. Seriously, the weapons are the weapons, and not designed to fit either sex particularly, but they are designed more for right-handers.

Almost resemble French Foreign Legion covers. They're arguably the baddest of the bad.
Yeah, but their hats look stupid.

I can't say much, I had to wear the dixie cup/dog dish cover occasionally during my time in the USNR. Mostly we wore woodland camouflage, though.

Just wait a few years when all branches share common BDU/ABU/uniform. It's coming in the near future.

You would be amazed the millions spent developing each branches uniforms...

This whole uniform change has been going on for a while. I hated it when they changed the Navy uniform. Then the Army decided to change their uniforms also. Nothing is set in stone yet. However the military has never had a problem with spending money.

I don't care for the new cover but I don't think it looks girly. It looks a lot like the dress hat many fire depts wear. Most folks don't think firefighters are girly.

I find it strange that this change is being reported as planned by the President. I've never heard of the President being involved in military uniform changes.

Exactly. It's just another silly attempt at polarization. Current cover was used since 1922. What was used before then? Well I showed wwI cover in the one pic I posted. Looks just like the new one. Exactly the same.

Good thing there are no more S-A-W or WWI marines left as I think they would resent people calling their cover girly, just because the top is slightly smaller, like the new (old) cover. And I doubt that they were less tough or lethal than Marines today, particularly as far as the circumference of their hat has to do with it.

I was a Marine for 8 years. The decisions for uniforms is decided by the uniform board however ultimately the commandant has final say.

Anyways it would have been a great privilege to wear what Dan Daly wore in WW1 and represent his great legacy.

Semper Fidelis.

You're correct it has nothing to do with POTUS.

Leave the USMC's hats alone for crying out loud.

My gosh what a hatchet political [censored] story.

Here read the real facts: http://www.stripes.com/news/us/marines-s...y-hats-1.248963

Quote:
“The president in no way, shape or form directed the Marine Corps to change our uniform cover,” according to the Marine Corps statement. “We are looking for a new cover for our female Marines for one overriding reason: The former manufacturer went out of business. … The Marine Corps has zero intention of changing the male cover.”

Thanks for clarifying. From the beginning I suspected this was just a propaganda bomb.
Fox-style reporting: I you can't fight it with facts, fight with malicious rumors.

I should know this as I raised one.

Exactly. A Marine is a Marine. The hat doesn't matter. Take the hat off, they're still Marines.
