upshifting/downshifting

I've been wondering which is better for the longevity of the drivetrain. Maybe it doesn't matter, but would it be best (if you're not perfect) to err on the lowside or highside of shifting when trying to rev-match your downshifts or when you let off the gas(but not too quickly) to upshift.


Sometimes, usually I am spot on but it takes a year or more to learn the car.

I would think erring on the low side would at least save some gas, and possibly not slip the clutch as much at lower speed when engaging.

Good drivers and I and I mean good drivers double de clutch changing down, lazy drivers don't. Guess which gear boxes last?

if i want to take as much energy as possible into engine braking, no rev matching... I'd like to use the rotation of the wheels to give the energy, not the gas pedal. If I'm coming out of a tight corner as fast as possible, then i rev match to avoid drivetrain shock and to place the engine in the required powerband.
