UPS said to expect package today, delivers nothing

That's not normal? UPS, Fedex and USPS always screw up.

Anyone else noticing that Amazon has been taking 5 - 6 business days to process an order before shipping?

I wish it was like it was years ago,you HAD to sign for it or they wouldn't leave it.

Yeah, having to take time off work to get packages was WONDERFUL!

Wouldn't bother me a bit. I've had packages stolen off my front porch. Nothing of value should be left unsecured.

Nope, not here.

BTW, Amazon did start using USPS for shipping of most packages now, instead of UPS previously. At least in my area, USPS seems to be overwhelmed with all this new business, especially this time of the year, so some of my orders arrive a day later than expected.

This.

Not only that it IS Christmas and ordering online has pushed volume up to insane levels compared to just a decade ago. I think it is amusing to see all the whining and complaining. It's amazing how well things work most of the time with UPS and USPS considering the complexity of things and the volumes of things they move today.

yeah- I ordered something and it took 5-6 days before it finally shipped. I think they take care of all the Prime folks first.

I contacted UPS, and was told that it was an issue within their systems, and I should have never gotten that message.

I find it difficult to believe, that UPS's internal systems are this sloppy. There's no way that a delivery can take place, but on the other hand, they have systems spitting out email messages to expect it to be out for delivery.

At UPS, the left hand has no idea as to what the right hand is doing. Stunning, I know.

No wonder that Amazon is trying to find a way out.

Here's a question:? I ordered something to be sent UPS to my wife's place of employment.... a school. It says it will be there by 8pm Friday.

Well, schools close at about 4pm. SO, is UPS "smart enough" to NOT try delivery to the school (closed) on Saturday?

Or will they "try" again on Saturday and screw me by taking it back to the depot an hour away and leave a "we tried twice" note.

This may help. They don't deliver on Saturday at all, unless it was sent Air, and the shipper paid extra for Saturday delivery.

Whew! There's hope I might not have to race an hour away before the UPS warehouse closes due to a "we tried twice" sticker.

Now, hopefully they store undelivered things over the weekend relatively non-violently.

I placed an order last monday and they never hit my card until this Monday. Placed an order Sunday and it still hasn't hit my card.

If you didn't pay for faster shipping, it isn't uncommon for Amazon to not fill your order for a few days. I've never had one take longer than what they promised, but in several cases they indicated it may take 8-10 days to recieve the item (supposedly in stock), order it, wait a few days, and then have it be shipped 2-day.

Also had it go the otherway - state it will take 8-10 days, then have it two days later...

I figure its a way for them to manage their order filling and shipping needs a bit to balance things out. Want it faster, then pay for it.

UPS's system has always had a few gremlins this time of year. Fact of the matter is exactly as was pointed out - unless you paid for a specific delivery date, the fact you even get any notice is a bonus...

My problem isn't with a few days delay in delivery. I can live with that, especially this time of year. My problem is when I look up the tracking number and it says the package was delivered on such an such date, time, etc., and it was not delivered. UPS and USPS are both guilty of doing this. UPS will even list a "signed for by" name. Another thing I see a lot is they'll have a status listed as "could not deliver, business closed". I always have my packages delivered to my work office as it's open 24/7/365 and there's always someone there to sign for the package. I guess the delivery person on these days wants to cut out early, so they don't even attempt to deliver the package. They should be a little more careful about their lies because I call when this happens and inform the people at either UPS or USPS that our building is always open and no delivery attempt was actually made. I doubt anything is ever said the USPS drivers, but I bet UPS chews out their drivers for lying about this stuff. That's not cool, especially considering how much they charge for shipping these days...premium prices SHOULD result in premium service...
