For better of worse I have two UPS in Connecticut attics year round both hot and cold. Unconditioned space. They power Unifi switches. No easy way to move things.

The current batteries are SLA. But I see some newer UPS with LifePO4 batteries. Would they stand up as well as an SLA battery to the heat?

Other battery types likely to be in small/medium size UPS?

The main UPS is in a conditioned closet in a lower level. It's a network connected APC that weighs enough that I had trouble lifting it. I like that one. But $500.

Main problem for you with LifePO4 will be the cold.

You'll either have to have heated batteries, or the UPS will have to have some way to keep them above freezing to keep from ruining them if the temp drops that far, which in CT in the winter is going to happen quite a bit.

In addition to the temperature issues, lithium batteries don't like being held at a "float" charge. Unless the manufacturer over-specs the battery capacity, then holds them at ~80-85% SOC most of the time, I would personally prefer SLA for that application.

which unifi switches some can be POE powered.
Attic is a terrible place for batteries.. I certainly wouldn't use lithium anything in winter.. unless the ups keeps them warm.
summer also not so good depending on how hot it gets up there.

Can you run a 48 volt line up to the attic? Most of the Ubiquiti switches have a 48 volt input terminal.
