With Advance Auto Parts having a great sale on Havoline Synthetic this month -

http://www.havoline.com/products/motor-oils2.aspx

I thought there might be some interest in finding the latest specs on the oil - these were all updated July 2013.

Conventional - https://cglapps.chevron.com/msdspds/PDSDetailPage.aspx?docDataId=310594&docFormat=PDF

Synthetic Blend - https://cglapps.chevron.com/msdspds/PDSDetailPage.aspx?docDataId=373488&docFormat=PDF

Synthetic - https://cglapps.chevron.com/msdspds/PDSDetailPage.aspx?docDataId=373591&docFormat=PDF

And the PQIA comparo -

Good thinking, thanks for posting. I'm going to be loading up all month on it.

Lookin' good. Will have to grab a couple of the AAP specials for the GFs Impala.

It looks like a good lube. Little high on the volatility side at 13% (and I know that is nit picking) compared to other "syns" but a great deal when PYB is the same price on "sale" this month at AAP as well.

I think Havoline is one of the better OTC syn's.
Their 5W-30 is certainly one of the lightest 30wt oil's available and it is interesting that PQIA measured it's KV40 at 53.5cSt, the lowest of the bunch, even lower than the 55.6cSt that Havoline claims resulting in a higher 177 VI.

So if you want a light 30wt oil there are few more suitable.

nice even though I dont understand the readings

at all but I was looking into havoline but the conventional lol

Hmmm! I haven't seen Havoline Syn at my local AAP. I'll have to check.

How much is it per qt or 5qt jug?

Or is it an oil/filter(5qts w/filter) special?

Right now AAP has 5 qts of the synthetic oil and a Pure One filter for $19.99.

Quarts are $6.59, my AAP doesn't have 5 quart jugs, if they exist. So the special with the Havoline synthetic oil and P1 filter is really a good deal.

What's the lightest 30wt oil and is the lightest 5w30 gonna be the best 5w30 in the market?

In the following PQIA comparison of 25 5W-30 synthetic oils Havoline is likely the lightest. Even at extreme cold temp's (-30C) only PU is as light.
http://www.pqiamerica.com/March2013PCMO/Marchsyntheticsallfinal.html

But the lightest 5W-30 is likely Sustina with it's 194 VI.

As for the "best" 5W-30, that depends entirely on what attributes of an oil are most important to you in your application.
What I will say is that there isn't a lot of variation in A5/B5 5W-30 syn's compared to some grades, they are all good.
For normal use, whichever oil is cheapest is what I normally recommend.

Why not just run a 5w20 instead of splitting gnat hairs over an ultra light (and likely higher cost) 5w30?

Thanks! I just scored the last 5 qts of Havoline Synthetic 5W20(& there was only 2 qts of 5W30). I asked the Team to check the back for more...NONE!

I brought in an old Marine Battery that I had taking up space in the garage and got $5 to use toward the oil/filter, bringing down the cost besides

I'll go back in a week or so and check again when their supply is restocked but, at this price w/P1 filter, the pickings will be as slim as they are now, for sure!

Picked up the AAP deal in 5w20. My Honda is spec'd for 0w20, but that Havoline 5w20 should be just fine in the summer.

That'll be fine indeed!

Very interesting. Thanks for posting. The word descriptions and approvals make it more appealing than the actual specs. Would like to see the flash point listed.
