Update failures

Vipre updated and is fully functioning.

Nothing finds any virus or other nasty.
Still won't update Windows, and have to go around the bend to log into my Yahoo mail account.

Sounds like it is time for a backup of email addresses, bookmarks, documents, etc. After that, format the hard drive and do a clean install.

Friend had a similar situation and that was the only thing that solved his problems.

Damage is usually done by the virus. Removing the virus still leaves the damage behind. One needs to know what was removed so that one can see what type of 'fixing' will work.

Check your browser for a vpn or proxy. Internet explorer/tools/lan settings.....and remove them. The Advance tab will allow a restore/reset of settings to clear out any 'accidental' changes.

Also, check your wired/wireless cards for a change in the DNS or IP address settings.....control panel/network connections/ rightclick on your wired/wireless adapter and check properties, select tcp/ipV4 properties, and make sure there is no rogue dns and that obtain IP automatically is checked off. It might be good to setup opendns.com
