UPDATE: Electric Vehicle Conversion: Volvo S40 pump to 1984 Jeep CJ-7 stock Saginaw

You mentioned power brakes being a possible future option...

Since you've added the Volvo electric P/S pump, couldn't you just throw on a Hydroboost kit and call it a day?
YES, and there's nothing wrong with that more simple version but, I chose the Volvo for several reasons: it's all in one and is SOOOO much quitter then any vacuum pump, it's cheap, I think Volvo has a couple million of them and they are just on of the companies that use this, it's very efficient, doesn't rob too much from the batteries as opposed to a vacuum pump that's always running (or you hook up a switch to do this or that, blah, blah...), less plumbing.

I think a division of Ford makes the pump.

And it's easy.

WAIT, did I answer that wrong - sorry.

Maybe I don't understand what you mean - can you explain please.

Sorry if I misunderstood you.

I just meant that since you've already run everything to the steering box from the Volvo pump, why not add a Hydroboost for the brakes in-line with the steering gear, a la GM trucks. It would only require 2 additional lines (pressure return from the gear/reservoir).

The Volvo P/S pump should have enough volume and pressure to run a Hydroboost, no?

Oh, got it.

I see the logic of the question now.

No, I doubt it has the extra pressure to donate to another component.

Besides, in an EVC, using an iBooster has added benefits for regen and general sensors i need info from already built I to the iBooster.

For example, I can get rid of the transducer once I add the iBooster.

Also, they are both about the same price so it doesn't make sense to add something if one component will serve multiple purposes.

That's very cool, I Googled the iBoost and it's a really neat piece of equipment!

I had never heard about it until recently either!

Yeah, it's very cool tech - if you dive a bit deeper, or perhaps you already did, there's a group that's already deciphered the CAN signals (mostly) so it's even more useful if you know how to speak CAN...

AND, readily available - I just did a check, over a 1,000 of them on ebay (searched 'ibooster gen').

Just in the past week, I noticed a downward trend in the price also.

I like this version from a 20-23' Tesla Model Y - $320!

Yep, all that I need is a standard mounting bracket and a custom plunger (Length and Eye type end) and I might be good to go.

Hi All,

Quick update, I just hit 522 miles on the EVC Jeep - Volvo power steering pump and Saganaw knuckle are working SOOO much better then I ever thought they would, NOT a single problem yet.

I'll check back in if anything explodes or stops working.
