ok so here are the results on my wife's 2008 Scion xB. We bought the car new. She had the dealership changing the oil every 5k miles with toyota oil/filter.

I finally was able to convince her to let me take care of it. Put in Mobil 1 5w20 along with a purolator pure one filter. Going for extended oil change intervals. I ran this oil 8k miles and got the analysis done

Little concerned about the Iron and Molybendium, or maybe this is normal for these Toyota 2.4L 4 cylinders.

Input is appreciated. We would like to be able to run 10k between changes since most of her driving is highway and she puts 20k a year on her car. If the Mobil 1 won't give it to me I'll probably go back to 5k changes, though don't know if I'll stick with Mobil 1 (due to cost changing every 5k miles)

If it makes a difference the air filter was changed after the oil change, it was due/slightly overdue

I'm not trying to be a "wise guy" but what's the story with Mobil 1 and all the iron?

Does anyone know if Mobil 1 Extended Performance has these same problems with the iron? Could it be the lab or is all Mobil 1, in every flavor, high in iron and low in Moly? Thanks for your response.

The story will depend on witch side of the M1 fence your on,lover or hater it's either killing your engine or no big deal rest easy.I'm not in either camp,don't use syn oil.The world may never know what the real story is,just another oil mystery to pontficate upon as M1 engines continue to outlast the other parts of a vehicle that have it in the crankcase.

I think if the new air filter takes care of the silicon you should be good to go 10K no problem. M1 at 5k oci's is somewhat wasteful imo.

Yeah 5k would be Castrol GTX. thanks for input. Will run another UOA on the 10k change
 
If you don't like the M1, try a different brand and do another UOA in a few OCI's. Your problem right now is an air filtration one (at least that is what it seems) you got a look at your engine wear and it is OK. Mobil 1 Extended Performance is great but won't be producing any more 5w20. It will only be 5w30/50 so no use getting used to EP. I would try Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra, Edge, or Valvoline Synpower. I bet you your Iron will come down. I am not saying this was a bad UOA by any means, it could be better though. Change the air filter and don't do another UOA for a while. Pick a new oil and try it out.
 
Well it's got fresh M1 in it and a new filter. Gonna run to 10k and if it doesn't improve I'll switch oil. The only way I can afford it is because I can find it in Walmart in 5 quart containers. Buying by the quart would be cost prohibitive
 
Castrol Edge @ 10-12K would probably be more appropriate, you could do less than 2 changes per year and still have plenty of additives left. UOA to confirm how much more you can take it.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance would also be suited for the 10K+ OCI

Vanilla M1 is okay, but the EP is really good.

The problem for me with Mobil 1 Extended Performance is availability. It's like $8.50 a quart that I can find. I can get 5 Quarts of M1 for $24 all day long at Wal-mart. I use PP in my Altima, had good results, but can't find it in 5 quarts in 5w20 around here either. It's a little better at $6.50/quart.

Molybdenum is used as a friction modifier and anti-wear additive. It's supposed to be there.

The high iron is a fairly common thing with Mobil 1.... Try a better oil.
 
Your iron is a little high and that is the norm for Mobil 1 on the first couple of OCI's. I would not worry about it at all if you want to run a 10K OCI Mobil 1 is a fine choice and your iron will trend down I would not worry about it.
 
I can get the 5 qt jugs of Mobil 1 Extended Performance for under $30 all day long around here in multi flavors.

Can you find Castrol Edge in your area in jugs?

Walmart is where i find all my stuff. Hit up more than 1 if you have them within reasonable distance of your location.
 
Since I'ts already got M1 in there it'd be silly to change it now. I'll switch over to PP in 10k miles and see how that does.

Does the Mobil 1 Extended Performance also have a high iron content or is it just the regular Mobil 1? Thanks.

Iron will always be there with Mobil just move on, there are tons of other choices. Mobil has been around for a long time though so if iron does not bother you, uoa was pretty good. With that car PP would be a natural at good value .IMHO
