They still had at least 50 gallon jugs of the Rotella-T 5W40 in the CI-4+ formulation. Who would have thought that... This China-Mart is in a very economically hard hit erea and I guess it just has not sold well. The pre-T-6 CJ-4 stuff has been out for well over a year not to mention the T-6 stuff. Any Goldwing riders in that erea should stock up. They seemed to swear by it.

Old stock, i'd load up!!

I would be cautious.

It could be so old that the add-pack may be compromised now. CJ-4 has been out since 2007 or so right? If that old RTS is 2006 era (or older), I'd stay away from it. You're getting near the end of it's shelf life. Perhaps someone can help us know for sure; some packaging "born on date" perhaps?

Also, no sense in craving the old CI-4+ for a 'Wing when the new T-6 is JASO-MA compliant now.

I must ask the question=== How old is too old when it comes to oils? I have prob a case of old PYB that has to be 15-18 yrs old. I have never used it cause it may be too old, but cant turn it in cause its still new... (kind of...) Add this to the recycle list, or use in old mower, perhaps use as a chain lube?

Rotella will be fine for the cats. The extra ZDDP might hurt them if you have an engine that burns a lot of oil, but in that case, any oil will hurt the cats over time.

On the plus side, the extra ZDDP is great for any flat tappet cam engine.

I wouldn't use it in the engine. Modern engines have much tougher demands on the oil. Maybe in an old mower. I throw whatever in one of my mowers and it's 25 years old and going strong.

You should, however, let me buy you a beer next time I'm in Houston and toss me a bottle for my collection.
