Unlock Your Car with a Tennis Ball

So, anyone on ebay selling these "special" tennis balls yet?

If you're caught with a slotted tennis ball, could it be considered an "instrument of crime"?

Mythbusters are sometimes a bit flaky on their recreations.

Doesn't work with all cars. You have to trust Mythbusters but they tried it and it didn't work very well at all.

It's an old trick that works on cars that have vacuum-activated door locks like a mid-'90s Audi. That's why Audi soon switched to an electric door-locking system.

There are openings at the bottom of the door. Wouldn't the extra air dissipate through these holes instead of building up pressure inside the door panel?

Neither positive nor negative air pressure travels instantly from A top B. Try the lock trick with a toilet plunger.

Judging from the dent around the lock, it takes a lot of force on that car to make it work. Or blondie keeps locking herself out.

if you are going to carry around a tennis ball, wouldnt it just be easier to carry around an extra key? this would work with all makes and models and wouldnt excite law enforcement.

and yes, in virginia anyway, that tennis ball could be considered a 'burglarious tool' if you planned to break into other people cars. its the intent of the use that matters not what the object is.

And more reliable!

I see another silly fake video from the Eastern Bloc. A likely explanation for the video is that someone presses the remote button at the same moment she pushes on the ball, making it appear that she opened it.

Mori: Audi (and VW and MB) used vacuum for years and years. Our 1980 Audi 5000 diesel had it, so it's not like they switched 'soon' if they still had it in the mid-90s...

The man from whom we bought our travel trailer has a new motor coach. He has a spiel for guests about the voice-activated GPS; the tour soon concludes outside with the "voice-controlled" main awning (remote in his pocket).
