Chrysler/Dodge dealer just finished replacing our transmission, thoroughly flushed radiator, etc and refilled with what they're calling a *universal green* coolant.

I'm about to change the thermostat on this van, coolant is only 2k miles old, if that, so I'm going to keep all the coolant and simply add more when needed.

What can I mix with this, without harming the system.

Van is a '96 chrysler town/country 3.8L V6

I'd have to imagine so. Don't forget their used fleet. They certainly use bulk dino, not mopar branded quarts of oil.

Tire shop I worked at used dexclone. Another I interviewed at used Saftey Kleen "chameleon".

My '97 2.4 Voyager is full of bright green coolant after a timing belt and water pump change and I haven't noticed any problems. If I ever have to top it off I just use whatever all makes/models (Peak Long Life, Supertech, Prestone) neon green coolant that I have around.

My $.02, if I was going to drain coolant and replace a thermostat, I would go ahead and flush the cooling system with water and put all new coolant in while I was at it.

"Universal Green" is most likely a long life coolant such as Peak long life. The color is really just a dye , the chemistry is what is important. If you can contact the dealer see what their "universal green" is . Some of these are just dex-cool clones others are not. However just top off with peak LL 50/50 and monitor the coolant for sludging and prepare to change in 2-3 years . Thats what I would do.

Go to the dealer and get them to pour some in a container and pay for it. That is the safest bet that you will get exactly what they use.
