Under valve cover pics 97 Civic

When I seen it online I was kinda surprised. You could see some of the bottom and it was gray and the rust was on top of that. They appeared to be the same in the store. Maybe it was one batch or something but I’m not sure.

You definitely couldn't see any of the bottom of the can with the filter not cut apart, if you could, the media wouldn't be doing anything as the media doesn't seal against the bottom of the can, it seals against a spring assembly. It's a basic leaf spring with a valve in the centre of it in the basic FRAM filters, but other filters use a coil spring that butts against the bottom of the end cap if they use metal end caps.

Oh ok I didn’t know that. Maybe the video was wrong then he said it was the bottom of it.

This one has been sitting on my shelf for a couple months. No sign of rust at all. I feel like if this was actually a real big thing i would have seen it discussed here.

I added another thing to my checklist 📝
- Oil Filter Rust before install

I always look inside for some reason but I don't think I was ever checking for rust ... Just to see if I find any spiders or something. 🕸

Dealer oil filter has a sticky plastic wrap covering the inlet holes.
