Here's what under the VC's looks like on my '82 Capri Black Magic. Engine is out of my '88 GT which I bought with 245,000Km on it. OCI's were 10-12,000Km with Mobil 1 of the following grades (in order):

5w30
0w20
5w50
5w30

I experimented to see how much the viscosity difference between a 20 weight and a 50 weight was going to be; ended up being 8psi hot at idle.

Never had a used oil analysis done. These heads have been on the motor since 285,000Km but I feel fully justified in posting this pic, as the E7TE heads (original) I took off were equally as clean. The lifter valley is also this clean. Engine now has ~330,000Km on it (it's actually higher, but I don't remember the exact number and am too lazy to go out to the garage and check

One of the first things I replaced on my mustangs.

Gotta love mobil 1,for it's ability for keepin an engine clean!
Thats what I used on both of my mustangs, never had a problem with leaks, excessive burnoff,NOTHIN

Actually, those are MAC 1 5/8th's longtubes, the picture just makes them look funny, though they are "pinched" in the factory location to square them up for the exhaust ports.

When I first got the car the valve covers leaked. I also had an issue with the rear-main seal. New valve cover gaskets and a new rear main seal, which I did when I replaced the clutch (Centerforce), and it was leak-free.

Obviously since the motor is now modified (heads, cam, intake...etc) most of the gaskets are new.

I've always had very good results with M1, which is why I was quite surprised when I heard people coming down on it here.....

I'm curious about this, too, as I have an 86 302 in a truck with almost 120k miles on it. Conventional oil its whole life. The mileage isn't that high, but it's a little old.

Oh, thanks. According to the times posted, I probably had my window open before you posted. Well, my rear main seal isn't leaking... yet. I would like to use GC 0w30 if I could.

I don't see a problem with that idea, as I said, I ran 0w20 in it for a winter and only saw an 8psi difference between the 0w20 and the 5w50 that I put in after the winter.

Ahhh, mine were the black painted ones and yeah, they are no longer black :D

I may re-paint them......

Have to get the car up and running again first though.

Those are the stock 93-95 Cobra rockers, 1.7 ratio, pedestal mount. They were made by Crane for Ford, and so they say Ford AND Crane on them and carry a tradition Ford part number
LOL.gif

I have to change the valve springs still, those are Crane beehives, but I am replacing them with K-Motion K800's, as per my cam grinder's recommendations to run with my new cam.

Back in the day I remember reading that roller rockers reduce valve train friction by ~40% on that motor.

Please share some photo updates once in awhile!

Very possible, given that it has factory roller lifters, but the stamped steel rockers would definitely be a point of friction.

I have those Cobra rockers on both the Capri and my Town Car
