After ordering a bunch of parts, I decided to see what quality I would get in the Ultra-Power oil filters for a 2GR-FE I have in the stables. Set me back less than $3.00CDN. Made in China. Looks very well built.

The gaskets are your standatd issue nitrile but same thickness as the Fram Extra Guard and OEM Toyota filters. Unfortunately, I do noy have any Toyota filters to compare side by side, but the media, upper and lower caps and the glue looked almost identical from my memory.

There was no run in the gluing of the pleats. They are very well spaced and uniform. No uneven or slanted pleating. I am unsure of the efficiency of the filter media, but I may send it out to be tested. Likely no worse than the OEM Toyota filter for the 3.5 and 2.7.

Please do not make this about China made filters and such. This is for information purposes and for those that may have to pinch some pennies during these times.

Looks good. I was just looking at filter choices on Rockauto for the caravan. These filters are 1/3rd the cost of an Ultra. Don't know if I can bring myself to not Run a Fram Ultra.

I just don't run chicom filters and got lucky grabbing a ton of Napa Platinum's(wixxp clone) while on a Napa sale.

Looks mean nothing. Send an email concerning holding capacity and micron rating of that media. Love to know their response.

You get what you pay for. What is your engine worth?

With the number of high mileage 2GR's with chain/vvt/tensioner and even cam issues that I've seen, I would stick with synthetic oil, grade for your weather/driving, and any of the synthetic media filters. Interval is for you to decide on but 5k miles/6months is my limit. Trying to mentally count up the mileage on the 4 2gr's in the driveway and have about 1/2 million miles without engine problems or parts replacement. The VVT screens were spotless and see MANY dealer serviced screens clogged.

You reap what you sew with maintenance. Save a buck now... cost many more later. If you dispose of vehicles often, then use whatever.

Well there you go. Bought it as a comparative. Nice rant though.

Are the ends of the pleats evenly sealed with glue or "resin" to prevent oil bypassing around ends, as on Toyota cartridges? I've seen another brand that lacked the sealing.

The resin/glue is a complete seal that extends from the pleat fold to the inner attachment with the end cap sealing gasket. I could not find any area that was not completely sealed. Assembly quality looks very consistent and solid.

Looks a fine copy of the Thailand Denso. Very nice looking but for about the same price the Denso from Toyota is available. That one is tested by Toyota like all factory supplied replacement parts.
