I used to watch the Ultra-Man cartoon as a kid....

Today I changed the oil, with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and a Fram Ultra filter. Also replaced the low-beams with Sylvania SilverStar Ultras. Did not need gas but as I was out running errands it occurred to me: really had to top off the tank with Sunoco Ultra gas.

Fun stuff. Anything I missed in Ultra-land?

Not a big fan of the Silverstar after the deception they recently put everyone through, I hope you got the new stock bulbs with the clear glass opened at the filament level. The old completely coated bulbs didn't put out as much light as advertised and have increased glare from the colored glass.

I do however like me some Pennzoil Ultra and Fram Ultras.

To Mr. Memphis: I hear you. Maybe I am just a lucky cuss but I got good life from my SilverStars. (regular version, not Ultra) About 2.5 years; closer to 3 years than 2, I think.

It might help that I drive a Saturn, which uses the high-beams at reduced intensity for DRLs. Some of the early death stories about SS come from vehicles where they were on 'all' the time, either as DRLs or regular low-beams.

My night vision is iffy, so I will take every edge I can get. It might be psychological, but I truly believe the SS make light up the sides of the road better than regular-warmth bulbs. Not a huge difference; but enough to notice.

If the SS Ultras go south on me I will move to Phillips next time.

Good idea, but the CS5 does not come in the 14s I need for the Saturn. Plus I just spent a small fortune (compared to waiting for a DTD triple rebate deal) on Nokian WRG3s, which had better last several years.

It's possible I spent more than I needed to on this car and bought more oil, filter, tire and headlight than I needed. I don't mind erring on the side of overkill when it comes to my car and getting through a NEPA winter, and hopefully a few more.

No S-series is ULEV as far as I know. Mine has the CA emissions package and is LEV. (first generation LEV, of course) For the 2000 model year that was not bad.
