They're definitely hideous. What's up with this new Transformeresque styling? The older ones are kind've cool looking,I liked those.

I think its the ugliest new car sold right now.....wish I could like it but I cant

Good thing it gets great MPG since it might have to sneak up on a gas pump

The price with rebate still isn't great.
The Fusion hybrid has a bit low mpg for me.
Maybe the diesel Cruze will be a sleeper???

I cringe every time I see one of these new ones. I thought the previous model was ugly, they're beauty queens compared to the current model.

No doubt it is one fantastic machine as far as reliability and mpg, but the terrible looks totally outweigh the benefits.

Except when its parked in your driveway or garage....or when you are walking up to it....or washing it. That is enough for me. T rust me I wish I liked it....but the new Kia Niro does not look bad and gets 50mpg.

I think the Kia Niro is a good example of what might take off in sales versus a standard small hybrid like a Prius. My guess is that the Niro would outsell the coming Hyundai Ioniq just because of the subcompact version of the SUV body style that Americans seem to love. A guy down the street has a new Prius and the styling is straight out of a Jetsons episode in my estimation.

There's a California-specific ad campaign for the new Prius on tv here that says to me that Toyota might be concerned. It plays on the concept that California is a different place and Californian's "get" the Prius and somehow buyers want to buy into that along with the new body style and save the world...even if gas prices are low. I've never bought or not bought a vehicle based on the current price of gas, so maybe Toyota's correct in playing up that angle in a tongue-in-cheek way to pump up slow sales. It does seem pretty ***** is comparison to what's coming from competitors.

The perception of this car as ugly will make it cheaper out the door.
I'm seriously looking at a new car late this year and I'm guessing that these things will be available on the cheap.
Of course, if gas were four bucks a gallon as it was just a few years back, the current Prius would be a thing of beauty, very much like the plain daughter of a rich family.
Were one to buy one of these cars, he'd be laughing at all of those driving sleeker looking models at every fuel stop after a few years, when fuel prices recover.
Beauty is a relative thing and so is ugly. The Jetsons styling might grow on one or at least become ignorable.

Car Connection review of the new Prius:

Quote:
The front of the car is recognizably a Prius, but with a much lower and sleeker nose. Toyota says its front badge is no higher than the one on the Scion FR-S sports car. Swooping accent lines on the body sides make it look less slab-sided, but it all starts to go wrong at the back of the rear doors. The roof pillar is shiny black, giving it a "floating roof line," but the roof color has two odd little comma-shaped tails wrapping around the corners of the rear hatch. The rear end is high, as before, with chevron-shaped taillight lenses at the top outer corners of the tail.

But those taillights have tails of their own, making them almost into question marks that point down toward the ground, drawing attention to the height of the tail, despite a blacked-out lower section of the rear bumper cover. To many eyes, the rear end has too many conflicting elements, turning it into a jumbled mess—although you'll definitely be able to see a new Prius ahead of you, since no other car on the road looks like the Prius.

Fuel Economy 9.0
Safety 9.0
Comfort & Quality 8.0
Features 8.0
Performance 7.0
Styling 6.0

If someone don't car about styling(both exterior and interior), then with current $2,000 rebate from Toyota and good discount from most dealers it is a good buy.

They didn't step off the edge just a bit they took a flying leap.

Not only we are bashing their ugly styling, consumers rejected their idea of stand out(ugly) design by not buying it. Their sale volume went down more than 15% compares with last year.

I actually think that paint job softens some of the funny lines the car has.....

I'll admit it, the front end looks like the face of a grasshopper but overall the design is still awesome. Also, 60+ MPG is nothing to sneeze at. I can achieve 70 MPG if I want to get in everybody's way but most of the time they're in my way.
