Thanks for that, Very funny. I drove a lot of Lyft & Uber just a while ago. I stopped for now, don't know if I'll drive for it again. ... I can remember when I first found out about the concept of Uber, and I thought it was weird.
Actually it works, usually. For the most part. I met and spoke to a lot of very cool people. Some strange ones. It is indeed weird.

I think what kinda makes Lyft & Uber "OK" is that we all realized the cab drivers for many years have employed some scumbags. (not all, yet some scummy cabbies do exist....).
Taxi cabs have been necessary and useful for years. The few times I've used cab drivers (about 1980 to 2014), I've mostly had bad experiences. And thats with only about 10 rides in all that time.
I was able to give rides to people very safely, politely, and I had a 4.9/5 rating at the time I quit doing it. Most Uber & Lyft drivers with high ratings are good drivers.

Uber & Lyft made it easy to get that stranger in a car. to get from point A to point B. Taxi companies and drivers have put obstacles in the way, and Uber-Lyft took advantage of the lapse in quality service.

For example, Uber is famous for convincing the government regulatory powers in Las Vegas to let them operate there. To convince them, they showed a study they did where the Las Vegas cab drivers were intentionally taking people the long way from McCarran airport to the strip in order to get bigger fares. Cheating. Of course, they didn't need the study since tourists have been complaining for years about it.
Many other stories of cab companies getting weird are out there. I've heard them.

I think this is tongue and cheek because the drivers are somewhat screened by these services and then there is the previous folks that have given them ratings as well. I've taken Ubers here in Canada and in the U.S. and haven't had any issues. I have had bad experiences in cabs on the other hand and complaining to the company doesn't seem to make a difference.

In St Louis a Lyft driver was hijacked at gunpoint when dropping 2 ladies off at 5 am in the morning. When the car was recovered it was beyond repair. The kicker was Lyft said he was in "driver's mode" when the hijacking occurred and only liability is covered. His insurance said he was using it as a commercial vehicle and would not cover it. Total loss 2016 Kia Optima. Ubber funny and Lyft not funny? Be safe out there!
