I just did. It seems slightly lopsided. I tried a "Four-in-hand" (?) and I think I did a Windsor, once.

This is how it came out, the first time:

This is after I re-did it:

This is the video I used.

This is the other video I -attempted- to use.

Any tips, on maybe how to make it more even? Thanks!

Cinch it up tighter. When you do, if the back side of the tie (the part you pull on to cinch it up) ends up longer then the front, start over and make the small end longer.

Yeah, you aren't pulling it taut.

Try a half-windsor. The "Four in Hand" isn't meant to be the best looking knot, but I guess it is supposed to be easier. I never found the half-windsor difficult to pickup, and now I use it everyday. The full windsor tends to be too much for most collars.

It looks almost finished in your first picture, you just need to make the dimple and pull the front part tighter. To do this put your index finger in the center of the tie where that dimple is and use your thumb and middle finger to make an "M" with the cloth as you look down. Then bring your fingers together and pull the front down.

To make the 4 in hand look better follow the video but do one more wrap around before you come up. This gives a bit of a larger knot but is still easy to do.

Also don't let the bottom of the tie go past the middle of your belt.

All ties tie differently so if you can't get it perfect at least have it the right length and have your shirt nice and ironed.

I'll post up some more pics of the attire later.. I appreciate the tie advice, and maybe I can get it a *little* shorter. For now: Got to go. Thanks, all! (Showtime in an hour! Quincy to Somerville.)

Have to start further on the thin end of the tie. A fat knot can be OK, and you dont want too thin of a knot, but yours is just like a stuffed sausage.

Oops, I should have said make the small end shorter.

You've got it a little long, too. You really don't want a tie going lower than your belt line.

That is NOT a nice thing to say to anybody, let alone to GHT!

There is also an app for iPhone and Android "how to tie a tie".

I strictly use a half or double windsor as they are the easiest to do and come out looking classy.

Then you can be like some people who use a special knot for different occassions(really?)

You are just like me--all thumbs when it comes to tying ties. Mine always came out lopsided. I even forgot how to do it because once I got one tied halfway nicely, I would never untie it. I would use it like a slipknot, open up the loop and slide it off. But I gave up wearing ties several years ago. Hate the things.

Why would anyone want to have their head in a noose? Just think, if some street person wants to rob you, they can grab you by the tie, yank it up hard and around the back and you'll be gagging (I walk the streets of downtown Detroit on a daily basis to get to work). Of course if your employer requires it, you are stuck.

Maybe the clip on type is best. I would have no problem with the clip on. If someone wants to think I am weird or goofy for wearing the clip on, that is their problem. Remember the title of the book about Richard P. Feynman (look him up, fascinating character) titled, "What Do You Care What Other People Think?" (Subtitled, "The Further Adventures of a Curious Character.")
