So I needed some railroad ties as part of a gun range I'm building. I went to a mountain property about 10 miles from the Denver, South Park, and Pacific roundhouse in Como. They were advertised as hand hewn railroad ties. Besides a lot of other neat stuff for sale in this relatively hidden 2200 acre property, I got to the pile of ties and immediately noticed they were from a narrow gauge railway which the DSP&P was. Many of them are very rotted but a lot of them still had the original spikes still in them. I don't have a guess the years they were used, but hand hewn has to be early on, maybe 1870-1900 ish?
They might be too cool to bury under a mound of dirt!
