Two Questions

My dad has an 05 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad cab 2wd 5.7L. It needs new shocks. He likes the way the factory ones have been. I googled the factory part number to try to find out who manufactured and what line the factory Dodge shocks. I wasn't able to get anything. Can someone help?

Second, He also has a worm gear drive Skil saw. I talked him into changing the oil in it after a year of HEAVY use. the Skil Part number is 80111. What kind of oil is it? He wants to use synthetic, I have some RP Recip 100.

I would imagine it was either Monroe or Gabriel that made them for Chrysler,however the aftermarket stuff is not equal to OEM.Ride,and harshness can be worse with aftermarket.Whoever made them,followed Chrysler specs.There may have been 5 or 6 sets of shocks depending on chassis package.

Depending on your Dad's perceptions he may or may not like aftermarket shocks better.

Some are smoother, some actually have a better ride but are firmer on the big body motions.

We have started buying Gabriel Ultras, very good price and excellent performance for us on trucks and vans.

in my opinion, oem shocks are the worst of the worst. (except some that use like bilsteins out of the factory like toyota does on some of their trd models)
GM and Ford shocks are made by Monroe. They're good for about a year or 2, but they fall pretty hard after that.
Put a set of KYB GR-2 shocks on. it'll give him a very nice comfy ride.

Standard on my Silverado!

Also on the SRT8. Great shocks, and may be one of the longest lasting made. But expensive, of course.
