I think its $800 for a new actuator or $2500 for a new genuine holset he351ve turbo. Truck has 250,000 miles and probably 12,000hrs. Im assuming its the actuator. Turbo sounds like its just free spinning. It puts out way more boost than necessary and takes a bit to slow back down. Its throwing a turbo boost not detected code. P2262

The City Diesel actuator seems to be the best choice, and is around the same cost as a rebuilt stock one. It's a common issue for the actuator to go out.

They also offer a rebuilt turbo that comes with their upgraded actuator.

Is it reqlly
I can't recommend on the repair parts but I did put a turbo on one of those trucks once. I left the cab on the frame which was a terrible mistake .

Pull the cab!
Is it really that bad? Its 3 bolts and the thing does weight like 50lbs.

Im just guessing that's what it is. I need to check the endplay and see how it spins. Its not throwing any codes for the actuator though.

It's mostly under the windshield and don't forget about the exhaust pipes on the rear of it you have to take off. I did a 2013 and the newer ones can't be any easier. I did not have access to a top side creeper so I had to work using one arm to hold me up, knees on the core support and my 54 yr old tired butt had to lift it out with one arm.

Next time I will pull the cab.

I've read you can go through the wheel well to replace the turbo although I have not had to do it.

I helped my buddy replace his actuator and we went through the wheel well. It was not a very hard job at all.

Yeah the actuator is a piece of cake to access. You could lay under the truck or lay on top of the engine too if you wanted. The beauty of an inline 6

That’s an expensive guess.

If you’re not able to diagnose it properly, you need to find someone reputable to diagnose it. I know that’s getting harder and harder to do by the day.

There isnt much to these turbos. If i can move it back and forth with my finger easily and there isnt play in tbe impeller and the impeller looks and spins free, ill go the actuator route i guess

Lots of information and help on this site below. I'd pull the intake tube and check for end play. It's likely the actuator but an expensive guess.

I guess the question is how much farther will the turbo itself go? Ive owned the truck since new so its been taken care of. It doesnt get washed, but it gets the oil changed coolant changed, power steering fluid etc.

How come it builds boost so easily? Barely on the throttle and I can easily hit 25psi.

This is why you need to get a proper diagnosis. Your guess is expensive, a proper diagnosis would likely cost far less in the long run.

Is this a mechanical issue, or a signal to the ECM issue? Is it this, is it that?

BITOG can’t properly diagnose this. We can only guess, which is what you’re doing.

That’s a lot of money to use up by guessing, or trusting an internet diagnosis. $$$$$$$$

Turbo's can go several hundred thousand miles. These engines are known to cake the VGT veins with soot due to the emissions and this can cause issues with the actuator.
Did you drive with your EB on and regularly use it?
Did you load the engine often to ensure the VGT was being exercised?
Do you have any CEL's on the EVIC? (check engine lights?) If so get them checked
If you are building 25psi of boost, I'm not sure your turbo is bad.

again, difficult to diagnose over the keyboard and it is your money.

I tow a trailer everyday with this trick, although I haven't been using the exhaust brake lately because the transmission is bad, so it doesnt hold it. It makes a really hard shift when it kicks out of gear.

As I typed this the truck diagnosed itself. The turbo is sooted up and the exhaust brake is stuck on now. I can only do like 10mph egts are maxing out

IMO, classic actuator symptoms. I would get it fixed ASAP before you pop a HG, especially if you have a modified truck.
What happens if you unplug it? Does it have a default position? Funny becaise it still did the sweep test when I turned the key on last night, so its still worming. Maybe it's just getting power but not moving like it should.
