My friend thinks Hawaii had wildfires because china mounted a laser on an airplane. I don't think he knows just how much power a laser of that size to shoot at a distance where radar and naked eye observers can't see, would have to be.

They are on the satellites and airplanes. Easy to get documentation of that. Ever heard of the Rods of God? Kinetic energy weaponry in space that shoots telephone pole sized tungsten rods and gives a nuclear type explosion with no radiation.

There is much unknow to the general sleeping public.

And I forgot the earthquake machines.....

We've been using light as a form of communication for a while, that's what fiber is. The problem is the power required to produce a focused beam of light strong enough to overcome atmosphere diffusion and pointed at one location long enough.

My son is in Tampa about 8 miles from Hillsboro college, not sure which campus. He has a lot of trees around his place. We managed to talk him into going to my brother in Valrico. No trees around my brother's place, he has two generators, and hopefully enough gas. I hope telling my son to go there was the right thing. My son is not in an evacuation area, neither is my brother.

It will be a close call as far as wind. Since they are not in an EVAC zone I am sure they will be fine, though granted it will be windy and most likely need that generator. Maybe.
They are having an issue with exact track. If it passes south of Tampa there will be little to no flooding, if on Tampa or north of, lots of flooding.
Either way it's not really like Helena which had favorable conditions all along its track. Milton is now encountering strong wind shear and dry air. The eye of storm getting more disorganized. It wont be enough to slow it down much because of it has a lot of momentum to slow down, still dangerous but nothing near at CAT 5, still maybe a strong Cat 3 but I think the area of those winds will be small.

I think you are wrong about the power used. A lot of technology is hidden from us commoners. The College of DuPage radar is unfiltered and you can see the NEXRAD pulses pushing storms around. Just happened last week in Illinois, I thought I was watching a video game for 2 hrs from 6am to 8am.. Had .30" predicted but they blasted the front and it broke up with the rain going south and the front with it.

I've busted the NWS before with their fraudulent fear mongering forecast. Had to retract 4" rain warning in January as it would mean certain catastrophic flooding.

That Ventusky site is better than anything Weather Channel uses. Been a daily weather reporter to the NWS for the last 10 years. Their forecast suck. NOAA is basically a front for nefarious activities.

Why would the hundreds, if not thousands, of professionals who research and track weather, bother with all their instruments. Or even think of flying a plane into a storm, if all they had to do is look up all the data on an internet app?
They all can't be in on a hoax. Think about it.

There is 30-35 knots worth of wind shear above that storm….

Which IS HUGE wind shear above a hurricane.

I’m not suggesting it is 105 mph right this moment…

But I know what a rapidly strengthening hurricane looks like ….

And I know what a rapidly weakening hurricane looks like.

And I know that 30- 35 knots of wind shear aloft and dry air being entrained into a strong hurricane can do to it.

This storm is weakening rapidly… That is without question right now.

And I know that forecast models are not good at keeping up with rapidly intensifying hurricanes and rapidly weakening hurricanes.


It will be interesting to see what that storm will be actually like at landfall.

Unlike Hurricane Micheal which was a legitimate cat 5 at landfall… Or Hurricane Andrew in 1992…

This one is in an extremely unfavorable environment which is having a big, big impact upon this storm.

Why are they quoting prices for Georgia when I could stay in Orlando for less than $200 a night?

I can only assume because the hotels mentioned are right near I 95
One also has to remember last-minute bookings at hotels filled to capacity are much more expensive than if you’re booking for next month
Same goes for airfare, supply, and demand
Just saying mass media news reports don’t always tell the story

The center half of the Florida peninsula is likely to have hurricane force winds by tonight. If your going to leave, may as well leave fully I suppose - why stay in a hotel with no power?

I thought we were talking about need to evacuate. If you don’t want To risk a loss of power and feel like driving to the next state, that is a choice, not a need.
But regardless, there are a ton of hotels in Florida outside of the 50 mile path of possible hurricane winds

Praying and thinking of all the BITOG and your families with in Florida or with connections there. Hope you all a safe time. I know the days/nights and months to come will be trying. Main thing is getting thru the storm that appears to be on the doorsteps now. Hang in there.

I will say any storm with winds north of a Hundo needs to be taken a good bit seriously…


Hurricane Isabel in my area was 105 mph at landfall and it did a great deal of damage in eastern NC and my area in southeast Virginia.

We had a very, very wet winter, spring and summer before that hurricane hit in early September 2003…

Many many homes de by fallen trees and many people without power for 2-4 weeks after the storm.

Hurricane Ike was very rough for southeast Texas as well in 2008… With a storm surge approaching cat 4 levels.

At 7 PM the northern eye wall has begun to move ashore near the Tampa St. Petersburg area

That is good news that it will be decreasing in strength pretty fast as it slips across the state. Weather channel and locals often scare the h__l out of folks over these storms but that is actually a good thing. Better safe than sorry , especially for the folks with elderly or kids to take care of.
