About trying a Fram ultra 7317 30k run. Oil will still be changed on time. Anyone else consider this a viable option?? This was my filter after 20k which I sent to Fram to dissect. All results came back OK.

We can't see visually at the microscopic level how loaded up the filter is and how it's affecting the flow so while it might be ok visually but it isn't necessarily in terms of flow. I think 20K is enough for a filter to be safe.

I think the reason Fram has not called this a 40,000 mile filter is that they would sell fewer filters. If the oil is changed regularly there is nothing much to build up in the filter. I say, go for 30,000 miles and report back.

I see no issue doing a 30,000 mile run with a Fram Ultra filter. My only concern is the specific model (7317) which is a smaller one, but it is a very minor concern.

If I didn't already have a stash of 15 filters for my Fusion, I would absolutely run one of my Fram Ultra 3600 filters for 30,000 miles. That's 4 oil changes for me, but still would only take around a year worth of driving, which I think would be fine.

Why send to back to Fram? What's the story on all that ... like what kind of tests did they perform and the results?

I don't think there is an "upsize" for the 7317, which is already bigger than it's smaller brother the 6607.

I ran a Tough Guard to 20k so a ultra ran 30k is nothing IMO

Yip!
I did 24k on that same Ultra model. Have over 20k on a 3614
That said I have no need to go to 30k as my thrill seeking has ended.
20k on a TG however was more of a test to me.

I was not stating to go with an upsize to the 7317, as I know it's already an upsize to the 6607 (One of my cars - the 2014 Altima - specs the 6607). I was just stating that the 7317 is one of the smaller automotive oil filters out there, in the general scheme of things. Sure, not as small as the 6607, but still small. I did also say it was a very minor concern.

It may well be possible...

Need to know information here is...

Capacity of Fram Ultra 7317??

How much total weight in Grams or milligrams of contaminates are being ingested or created per 1,000 miles??

Then one could see just how far out one can go on this size filter.

Now a XG-2 Fram Ultra which can hold 32 grams would be a no brainier for 30k miles... And likely way way more than that if contaminates are low per 1k Miles.

The 7317 is plenty big enough for a 4-cyl engine that's speced for the smaller 6607 sized filter. Yep, no concern IMO.

I did 30,000 miles on a Motorcraft FL-1A that was on a 400M in an F250

- back in the 1990's. ( 3X oil changes )

Yawn..... this experiment will be boring.

Agree 100%

I ran a TG10575 on a 4.6 to 15,000 miles - and it was perfect when I cut it open.

It would've gone 20,000 - 25,000 with ease

Yes, so boring it hardly qualifies as an "experiment," assuming the oil, engine, and air filtration are in good shape.

I've got a 7317 on my Grizzly 660 ATV that I plan to run at least 2 oci's over the span of a couple years. My ATV sees more dust and hostile environments than a car ever will so I'd think a 30k interval would be doable provided the engine isn't all dirty inside. I also have an Ultra on my Kubota diesel front end loader, I can't remember the part number but it's going for manual recommended 100 hours and then be cut open to see how it did! Tractor's had a pretty neglectful maintenance schedule most it's life prior to me so I imagine that's going to be one nasty filter, and I used Rotella T6 to help clean things up and for better cold starting.
