1. Where can I find this oil?
2. If it's in Alabama, can I find it cheap?
I currently use QS Defy, and I really like the oil, but in the future I'd like to have a cheaper alternative syn. blend. I've heard good things about TA, but I'll be [censored] if I've found any locally. If not available here, can anyone suggest a reputable web site that I could buy it of off? Or maybe a good place to score a good deal in Defy. I won't buy from Wal Mart, so that is out of the question. Best price I've found was 3.99/qt. 4.49/qt. respectively at the local AAP. That's where my current stash came from. If anyone has some decent information, it's greatly appreciated.

Why would you limit yourself to a specific brand? If you're not going to buy from Walmart you'll have to do your own local price shopping since that kind of thing can vary wildly.

I've tried different oils over the years, from different oil companies. I've found I like Sopus products quite well, especially QS, but I like the things I've read about C/P products as well.

Defy is just too expensive unless you get the jug from Walmart.

Not the oil you asked about, but Fram Full Synthetic is or used to be in Atwoods for around $4 Quart. I believe it is also made by Conoco Phillips. Sam's price for TA is around $2.07/ Quart by the case just for comparison even if you wont shop there.

Check local ads for auto part stores selling 5 quarts of oil plus filter for one price and they might have something that fits your needs.

Also advance auto parts has online discount codes, not sure if they can be used on oil but you could always add the oil onto another part you are buying if you need to make any repairs or such and still get savings on the total order.

SAMs club carries the 12pack case of trop artic for 26.18 , which comes out to 2.18 a quart. Worth it if you want to be a member or know someone who is a member

Do not buy a oil only because it has synblend on the label. By what is on sale that meets or exceeds the factory recommendations and you will be more than fine.

Order from Amazon would be the easiest choice for you since you do not want to shop at Wal-mart. You can get a 12 quart pack of Kendall for around 65USD with shipping and taxes.

Or while you are on there you might find a better deal.

1. Makes friends with a trucker who travels to the Mid-West.
2. Go to the Orscheln web site and find an Orscheln store where your trucker buddy passes by. (Bonus points if your trucker buddy is a military vet. Orchelns gives vet discounts)
3. Have him pick up several cases as he travels into the Mid-West.

P.S. It's currently $1.99/quart, no limit and Orschelns has sales on the stuff regularly. Also, there still is a Wal-Mart store that I know of that still sells it, and you could make them price-match it, but most Walmart stores have phased it out years ago.

I appreciate the info Dave. I'm trying to find an oil to service the small fleet of vehicles surrounding me. I like Defy in my '91 GMC, but I have a list of others that take 5w30 and 10w30. I know I cannot convince them that the price of Defy is worth it, but they'd be happy with the TA. I'll keep an eye out on Amazon.

That is a good idea as well. I'll keep it in mind, since we have plenty of truckers stopping in the shop to ask for directions. Our town is a bit confusing to navigate, even for some veteran residents.

I don't buy because of packaging or titles. I buy because I like the oil and believe it's a good product. I've always been impressed with Motorcraft, but the stuff isn't reasonable most of the time. That is why I'm searching for TA. Thanks for the suggestion though, and I see your angle. I know plenty of people who buy on preconceived notions and advertising.

I've never heard of it. Dad just picked up 2 cases of MC at $2.79/qt. from a wholesale distributor. I thought that was a [censored] good price; MC is never reasonable around these parts. Also never seen an Atwood's in this area. Here is Central AL we have no Menard's, Orschelle's(?), or Atwood's. Tractor supply and Lowe's is what we have. Lowe's has good deals on Formula Shell, but TC never sells oil at competitive prices.
