I’m getting tired of my leaking engine and don’t have money to repair it, plus at 160k, I need to be wise about saving money for more necessary repairs. So I gave this a try thinking I’ve heard it to be one of the thicker oils. This is the placebo effect I’m getting…the engine seems more responsive than on Maxlife. No difference in sound of engine or anything like that, just responsiveness. Anyone else’s placebo tell the same thing on this oil? And if its not placebo, could be the fact it is thicker and my engine being up there in age?

I dont think all of the stuff we feel is just placebo effects.I do believe alot of it has some merit. I.E I can certainly tell/feel the difference between conventional oil and Synthetic oil in my car.

I agree. Especially when it comes to engine sound. Many times we can quiet down a nosiy engine down by tossing thicker oil or something like Lucas Oil Stabilizer at it. What I find interesting is when an engine in good mechanical order is quieter using the same grade oil in but in a different brand. I found Castrol EDGE 0W20 to be head and shoulders above several of the premium 0W20 oils I've tried. I can't comment on the SN versions though, since I still have plenty of the SM brew on hand. Quiet is always a good thing when it comes to an engine. JMO

Castrol EDGE 5w30 is definitely quieter in my Corvette. I have heard many similar comments about Castrol EDGE being quiet.
It also lowered my ppm lead in my used oil analysis by 3 times !

What weight are you using? The 5w30 has a viscosity 12.0 @100c. The 10W-40 has a viscosity of 16.0 @100c. I will be putting some Castrol High Mileage 5w30 into my girlfriends Jetta 2.0 oil burner tomorrow. I hope it cuts down on the burn off.

Not a joke. I drained all 3.5 quarts out and put in MaxLife. I saved the Castrol and am using it to top off the Grand Marquis as it uses oil.
