i need to do the first change on my tremec 5 spd. should have done it a while but never got a chance. has 15k on it.

what fluid should i go with? manual specifies ATF. cost is not a concern

Royal purple syncromax
Mobil 1 synthetic ATF
Valvoline Dex 3
GM syncromesh

When I had my Mustang, I used Amsoil.

shifts alot smoother compaired to the ATF

On my T5 in my camaro I've tried a number of fluids - OEM, Valvoline Durablend ATF, Mobil1, Redline Hightemp ATF, and Specialty Formulations MTFGlide (ATF weight gear oil for ATF manuals).

Out of all of those, the Redline and MTFGlide have been the best, with the MTF being the best in terms of shift feel. The MTFGlide is so good, that when attempting to "lug" the transmission in too tall of a gear I no longer get ugly gear grind noises, and highspeed shifting is a lot better. I will continue running it, changing it out every 50,000 miles, because it works so well for me and my tremec.

Coin toss.

Pick a fluid. If you don't like it, try something else.

The syncromesh is a little thicker.

Royalpurple also has a good ATF.

And, don't forget the other boutique ATF's and MTF's. There are plenty to chose from.

the original fluid was pretty dark, but did not see any glitter in there
