Transmission woes....143k

Is this a well-known transmission? If so, there could be much cheaper options. Example for our '02 165k mile Tahoe, I damaged the trans after not getting one of the return lines back on it properly. I can remove and replace, if slowly, by myself.. that opens up more opportunities though. This is the 4L65E trans. I got a 'craigslist guy' that I got comfortable with to do a quickie rebuild literally while I waited for like $350 .. meaning pretty much just the key 'frictions' replaced plus a few of the valve body and other known easy fixes/upgrades. If I drove it into a trans shop, yes, I'm sure I could have easily shelled out $3000.

I have a 2004 wrangler with the 42 rle. are you sure that's what is in your liberty? I thought they quit using it in 2006 or so, but not sure.

anyway, it's not noted as a particularly strong transmission.

I dropped the pan and changed the fluid 2 years ago when my son turned 16.

I replaced the pan with a Dorman that had a drain plug. can't remember if I got it from Ebay or Amazon, but 2 years and works perfect.

no way I'm going to do this and then do again in a few thousand miles. think the Dorman pan was about $40.00 bucks or so and I can change fluid to my hearts content with a few jerks on a ratchet.

p.s. to add, I know you may get a lot of different opinions on this, but I worked and retired from Chrysler, have put hundreds of thousands of miles on their vehicles in the last 40 years, and when it comes to trans fluids, I only use Chrysler spec. even if it's super tech, which is what I did use in this transmission.
