It's time for me to drain and refill my transmission fluid. To save money I'd like to buy the fluid and take it to my mechanic. Are the certain brands I should avoid? Brands that's recommended? Any other advice in this area of maintenance?

Valvoline EP ATF
Thank you! If I use a synthetic transmission fluid like this, Valvoline extended protection full synthetic transmission fluid, can I wait longer to change it? How many miles before changing it again?

I found a great Black Friday deal at Napa Auto parts for less than $30/gallon for the Valvoline EP ATF.
Valvoline states that their EP ATF is NOT compatible with your 2002 Acura TL. Just save yourself some headaches and spend a few extra dollars for OEM Honda DW-1. Many of us here on BITOG have documented poor shift quality in Hondas when using ATF that claim to be compatible (but not approved by Honda).

@LDJ, it says right on the bottle that Valvoline EP ATF is suitable for ATF Z-1 and DW-1 applications for Acura/Honda. Besides, the shift quality in those were not the best to begin with, even when new.

Honda DW1 and throw a bottle of LubeGard Red in with it.

Yes, check the DW-1 pricing at your local Honda and Acura dealers. A quart sells for ~$9.39 at my Honda dealership, so it is about the same as Amazon. The Lubeguard (Red bottle) additive is sold for $12 at O'Reilly auto parts.
Thank you!!
