The transmission in question is the AT in my Focus.
After I left work, about a mile and a quarter after I left the parking lot (engine and transmission were cold), my car had a somewhat hard, shuddering downshift from 3rd to 2nd gear. It was a situation where I was slowing down, then traffic picked up so I accelerated and I had just enough throttle where the car almost couldn't make up its mind whether to stay in 3rd or to downshift.
Then a couple times the rest of the day, the car 'hung' in 4th gear longer than usual before locking up the torque converter (although most of this evening the car still shifted into lockup when it normally does).
I know sometimes odd anomalies happen in cars that never happen again. My car also has a transmission that 'learns' your driving style and adjusts shift points accordingly. Maybe this hard downshift threw things off? Should I disconnect the negative battery cable to reset everything, or just let it straighten itself out?
