Bad advice here. You want to cut the engine the second you see air. Running the trans dry will destroy the pump in a short time!
Ah, thank you. I was definitely in need of clarification there regarding the pump. I've never done it the way Hyundai suggests, and the risk of ruining the pump isn't worth it. Just keep adding fresh fluid up top while the return line collects in a container.
If the 1qt-2qt drain/shut off and refill works, it's still a good idea to pull the dipstick afterward while the engine is hot/level place to check for enough fluid. A slight overfill isn't bad, right?
Generally, it's about repeating the process until fresh fluid is coming out of the return line. So, I take it back, don't do it Hyundai's way!
